The coffee shop, tucked away in the heart of London, exuded an inviting ambiance. Its warm colours and cosy furnishings welcomed patrons seeking solace from the bustling city. Soft sunlight filtered through the windows, casting a gentle glow over the tables adorned with steaming cups of coffee and the soft hum of conversation.

As I entered, the familiar aroma of freshly brewed coffee enveloped me, instantly soothing my senses. My gaze swept over the space, eventually landing on Veronica, who was nestled at a corner table. Her smile lit up the room, and beside her sat a bundle of joy—Robert.

My heart swelled at the sight of them. Veronica's radiant smile seemed to mirror the sunlight, and Robert, cradled in her arms, emitted an aura of innocence that tugged at my heartstrings.

"Maria," Veronica waved, her voice warm and happy.

I made my way over, my steps light. "Ronnie, it's so good to see you," I greeted with excitement.

Her laughter was a melody, harmonising with the serene atmosphere around us. "And you as well! Maria, this is Robert," she introduced, her eyes twinkling with pride as she adjusted her hold on the baby.

I couldn't help but smile at the sight of the little one, wrapped in a soft blanket. His eyes, as bright as the sky on a clear day, gazed curiously at the world around him. I approached slowly, careful not to startle him.

"Hello, Robert," I cooed softly, my heart melting at the innocence in his gaze. I extended a gentle finger, and his tiny hand reached up and closed around it clumsily with an unexpected grip that forged an instant connection.

Veronica's smile deepened. "He seems to like you, Maria."

"He's quite the charmer," I replied, my words accompanied by a warm chuckle. As I settled into the seat across from Veronica, it was impossible not to notice the blatant bond between mother and child. "He has Deacy's eyes, doesn't he?"

Veronica's eyes softened as she gazed at Robert. "Yes, those beautiful eyes are definitely his father's."

Ordering our coffee didn't take too long, and we were soon delving into that long-awaited catch up.

"How's life been treating you?" I inquired.

"Oh, you know, the usual mix of adventure. Deacy's been busy, as you know, and Robert keeps me on my toes."

"How's motherhood?" I asked with a smile, eager to know how this bundle of joy had impacted my friend's life for the better.

Veronica's eyes softened, a mixture of joy and exhaustion dancing in their depths. "It's an incredible journey, Maria. Challenging and rewarding, all at once. Robert is a handful, but every moment with him is precious." She looked down at her son, his small hand tugging at her top. "I wouldn't change it for anything."

"He's lucky to have you as his mother," I replied, my admiration evident.

Veronica's gratitude was palpable. "Thank you, Maria. How about you? How's everything in your world?"
