Chapter- 62 Unplanned Surprises

Fae knocked softly on the hospital door and said, "Knock knock."

Tetsutetsu's gray head popped up off the bed, and he used his knuckles to brush away his drool. With sleep-deprived eyes, he blinked at her at two different speeds. "Oh hey, Fae."

"Hey." She looked at Kendra's ashen face and asked, "You mind if I come in?"

The gentle mountain of a man jumped to his feet and waved at his chair by Kendra's bedside. "Not at all! Please, sit here."

"Thank you, Tetsutetsu."

"No worries." He squeezed Kendra's nonslip yellow grippy sock-covered foot gently and chuckled, "I know she's gonna be so happy you're here. She's been talking about you a lot recently." 

When he caught Fae smiling at him sweetly, he cleared his throat embarrassedly that he was caught gazing at Kendra so lovingly. "Ugh umm, yeah, you bring Hitoshi with you?"

"Yeah, he and Denki are in the hallway, but I'm not supposed to know that since they're undercover. So act surprised when you see Denki, yeah?"

"Okay cool, umm yeah, I'm gonna go. I'll-I'll be right out there though if you need me." He sent one last look at Kendra before adding, "If either of you need anything."

Fae nodded and thanked him for everything. Once he was gone and the door was shut, Fae tossed her purse in the chair and climbed into the bed. As she squeezed in next to her brown-skinned sister, Kendra snapped sleepily, "That better be you pumpkin because I know that's not Tetsu since his ass is heavy as fuck."

"You don't know, maybe he is on a diet," Fae giggled as she hugged Kendra in a gentle but firm hug.

"As if," Kenny snorted while turning so that she could wrap Fae up like a burrito in her arms. "That man eats like a bear."

"A bear that has stayed by your side this entire time, and we both know what an unpleasant bitch you are when you're in pain."

Kendra's entire face turned pink, and it was nice to see some life back in her friend. However recent events meant Fae didn't have the heart to tease her tsundere of a best friend about her oh-so-very obvious feelings for the metal man. 

Instead, she remained quiet long enough for Kendra to stop fighting the inevitable and sigh stubbornly, "I guess that means I owe that asshole one, doesn't it?"

"Probably," Fae smiled softly. 

"Probably? Don't be coy, pumpkin." Kendra nudged Fae in a gruff tease. "Come on, tell me what to say in the future so I don't have to waste my time thinking of what to do!"

Fae closed her eyes to try and ward off a bit of that lingering uncomfortableness the emptiness her quirk's disappearance had left. Hugging Kendra brought back so many memories of the diamond-skinned brawler getting in fights to protect her, so she brought the one who had kept her safe for so long a bit closer to push back the scary unknown. 

Kendra was used to Fae not telling her things due to Fate letting her know she shouldn't, but something in the silence that stretched between them was different this time. 

Kendra couldn't move well lest her bed alarm or the electrodes on her scalp start screaming at her and alerting the nurses and Tetsutetsu, so she wasn't able to see Fae's face as she guessed, "Something happened...didn't it?"

"Yeah," Fae admitted under her breath. 

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"Do I ever want to talk about it?"
