"Someday, when you find yourself back here once more, come and find me."

The familiarity that had been tickling the back of Fae's consciousness suddenly came to the forefront of her mind as the omnipotent darkness engulfing her began to part. From the unseeing void came a familiar warmth.

W-who is there? Fae stuttered as fear began to trickle down her spine.

Who indeed~, the oddly recognizable yet unfamiliar older-sounding voice chuckled.

Fae kept her form steady as she prayed her palpable fright wasn't visible as she waited for who- or whatever- to show itself. Due to fear making her ramble anxiously, Fae parrotted with her mouth's returned ability to speak, "Someday, when you find yourself back here once more-"

"-Come and find me," that voice interjected once more, yet this time the voice came from behind her.

Fae hiccuped as she shot around, yet her panicked gaze was met with nothing but more pitch-black darkness. "How-how d-do you know those words?"

"Why wouldn't I know them?" Finally, she had a face to put with that voice, yet Fae's mind could not comprehend what the hell she was seeing then for standing before her was her...but an older more fuller-figured greyer version. Older Fae's wrinkled cheeks pushed up into her gentle golden eyes as she chuckled sweetly, "Why wouldn't I remember the words we said to our first love?"

Fae rubbed her eyes harshly, a few times, before blinking a few hundred more just in case this was all some incredibly weird mirage. Yet when the woman before her didn't disappear or say 'sike!' Fae asked, "What is going on? You're me!"

"Aye," the older woman hummed with understanding in her tone. "I know you are confused, and I know even better that you have a million questions because I too had just as many."

"You too?" Fae questioned before walking a bit closer to the older version of herself. "But you...you're me in the future?"

"Not quite. I am what is to become of your current form in the future, but I am also your past."

"Well that's not confusing at all," Fae mumbled from the corner of her mouth.

With a fond eye-roll, the sassy elder continued, "In this place, time is but a concept to which there is no true beginning nor end. Within the pools of time, all streams of life converge and diverge to create this infinite void we are existing within now. What you perceive as your soul, is not limited only to the corporal body you currently occupy."

"I don't know much about souls, but I thought it was one soul per person?"

"In most cases, that is true, but you..well rather, we, are not an average person."

"Annnd why are we 'special'?" Fae asked with ridiculous air quotes.

While ignoring the weird things Fae had done with her fingers, the older woman continued to explain, "Because ages ago our soul became bound to this very place."

Memories Fae had never had access to slithered across the most remote parts of her mind, still inaccessible yet making their presence known in her unconscious as the gray Fae explained, "Once upon a time, many lifetimes ago, in a time when technology wasn't prevalent and the gods of old were more prone to meddling in human affairs, we were tricked by one of the crueler gods of fate."

She waved her hand a single time, and the darkness to their left began to shimmer as what looked like a vivid memory began to come into focus. A dark-haired man lay slumped over in the woods as the floodgates to the heavens rained down upon his crumpled form. His impeccable suit splashed with blood, and rivers of crimson ran together with the deluge falling from the thunderous skies, but even despite the deathly state he was in, Fae still cried out, "Hitoshi!"
