Flu

It all started when I woke up that morning, feeling tired and achy.

I had been up most of the night in my basement kitchen, where I develop all sorts of goods, from bath supplies, lotions, candles, and sometimes even medicine. Though the medicine is very rare, thanks to Julieta's gift. The medicine I make in these cases are more to prevent the spread of sickness so Julieta doesn't have to heal too many people. It's more of an aid to Julieta's magic.

I had finally finished my latest batch of flu medicine to help out Julieta and the Doctor, who were getting overrun by patients that were coming down with the flu.

So much so that Julieta couldn't take care of people with other injuries like broken bones and allergies.

I walked downstairs, still feeling exhausted despite the few hours of sleep I've gotten. Looking at the clock, I realized I had only slept for four hours. I rubbed the muscles in my back a little in hopes that I could loosen them up.

I also needed to get the medicine to the Doctor's office soon, so I quickly grabbed the trays with the bottled medicine I had made and took them upstairs.

After getting dressed and drinking a quick cup of coffee, I left my house.

My head pounded with each step I took, but I ignored it. I smiled and greeted the few people already out this early. Julieta smiled tiredly as she prepared her table. Her smile widened a bit as I handed her a sign to put on her table, so people knew to get the medicine from the Doctor's office.

I knocked on the door, and Dr. Ramirez opened the door for me.

"Buenos dias Dr. Ramirez. I have the flu medicine for you." I greeted her as I sat the trays down.

"Buenos dias Y/n. Muchísimas gracias, for delivering all this medicine! It will undoubtedly help both Julieta and me."

"It was no trouble Doctor. I am happy to help." I replied.

"It seems like nearly everyone is getting the flu right now."

"Well, I am happy to do what I can. Anyways, I've got more things to make so I should head back home. See you soon Doctor."

"See you soon Y/n."

By the time I made it home, I was overheated. I sat down for a few minutes, sipping at a glass of water. I glanced at my to-do lists that I kept on my fridge. One list was a supply list of candles and bath supplies. The second list was people that wanted stained glass. That list was very short right now, and most of the work was already done. I was just waiting for the delivery day for them.

My stained glass projects run on deliver dates rather than when I complete the order. In many cases, the stained glass is to replace something, like a window or a table. Other times, the customer wants to make a spot for the decoration.

Looking over the main list, it looked like I had some prep work to do because soon, I'll be making more bottles of body wash and shampoo.

Feeling a little cooler after my break, I stood up.

And instantly regretted it as a wave of dizziness hit. I grabbed the table and held tight while I waited for it to pass.

I slowly made my way downstairs to take a look at what I had left over from the last batch of bath supplies.

I barely reached the storeroom when another wave of dizziness hit and I could feel myself falling.

(Bruno's pov)

I was walking through the Encanto, looking for my girlfriend. I hadn't seen her in a couple of days, and I was a bit worried. Julieta told me that Y/n had been busy making flu medicine for the recent bout of illness in the village.

I found Julieta in her usual spot by the fountain in the center of town. She didn't have many patients, so I wandered over to her, hoping my sister had seen her.

She hadn't seen Y/n since yesterday morning when she took the flu medicine to the Doctor's office.

Dr. Ramirez also told me she hadn't seen my girlfriend since yesterday.

"Y/n said that she had more things she needed to do at home. Have you tried her workshop yet? She might be in there. You know how she can get when she has a lot to do."

I chuckled at that. Y/n can get so caught up in her work that she loses track of time. I keep telling her that she needs a clock for the workshop but she keeps refusing. She says the ticking of a clock would distract her.

I knocked on Y/n's door, before reaching into my ruana for the spare key Y/n had given me.

She told me that if she was working in her workshop in the basement, she might not hear the door.

"The only time you shouldn't disturb me when I'm in the basement," She was telling me as she handed me the key. "Is if I have a do not disturb sign on the basement door."

She told me that I could either wait in the kitchen or living room. If she was taking too long, I could leave a note on her kitchen table so she knew I had been there.

I entered her kitchen and saw the sign wasn't on the door.

The door was also cracked open.

"Y/n?" I call out, carefully opening the door a bit more.

There was no answer. I slowly made my way down the stairs, my eyes adjusting to the change in light.

I made my way over to her workstation, and notice something on the floor.

It took me a moment to realize what I was seeing, and I rushed over.

"Y/N!" I called, as I ran to the prone figure of my girlfriend.

I quickly found the switch for the light above the stove. I looked down at the woman laying unconsciously beside me.

Her skin was looking a little red, and she felt very warm. Despite this, I could see her shivering.

"Hold on mi amor. I'll be right back." I told her, though I know she couldn't hear me.

I rushed out of her house and ran to my sister, who was luckily free.

"Julieta, come quick!" I yelled, startling her.

"Brunito, what's wrong?"

"I found Y/n unconscious in her workshop!" I told her.

"What are her symptoms?" She asked, and I told her what I noticed.

"She might have gotten the flu, it's been going around lately. Go to the doctor's office and see if any of her medicine is left. I'll meet you in her basement."

I ran to Dr. Ramirez, hoping she had some flu medicine left. I let her know I found Y/n and how my sister was with her.

Dr. Ramirez joined me as we returned to my girlfriend.

After checking Y/n to make sure she wasn't injured when she fell, she stated it was best to move her somewhere comfortable.

The first thing I noticed as I started to wake up was that I was laying on something soft. I didn't have any soft surfaces in the basement, which was the last place I remember being.

I must have been moved, but who found me?

The next thing I noticed was the hushed whispers.

"Well, her fever finally broke. That's good but..." It sounded like Julieta.

"I was so worried when I found her. You and Dr. Ramirez hadn't seen her since the day before. Who knows how long she was down there." That worried tone was definitely Bruno's.

How long was I unconscious?

"Well, she should be waking up soon, we can ask her what happened when she is feeling better."

"I'm awake." I muttered, as I opened my eyes. I smiled tiredly at Bruno, hoping to reassure him that I was okay. He rushes over to me, talking a mile a minute.

Julieta follows at a calmer pace, putting a gentle hand on her brother's shoulder.

"You gave us quite the scare, Y/n. How are you feeling?" She asked.

"A little stiff and achy, but fine otherwise. How long was I out?"

"Ah, mi vida. We were hoping you could tell us." Bruno stated.

I sat up, with Bruno's help. I nibbled at the arepa Julieta handed me, before talking.

I told them of how I felt overheated when I returned home after I had brought the medicine to Dr. Ramirez. I drank some water and just sat in my kitchen for a bit to cool down.

"How long were you sitting there?" Julieta asked.

"No more than an hour after I got home." I replied and continued by telling them about the brief waves of dizziness and how I passed out in the workshop.

The siblings shared a worried glance with each other before turning back to me.

"I found you the next day," Bruno began. He told me of his worry when he saw me in the workshop and how he brought Julieta and Dr. Ramirez. "That was two days ago. You've sleeping in here since then."

Julieta kept me on bed rest, but Bruno made sure I wasn't bored. He animatedly talked about the script he was writing, asking for my feedback on some of his plots.

After a few hours he got ready to leave. My boyfriend turned back towards me, a worried expression on his face.

"Please take better care of yourself mi vida. I don't want to lose you."

"You won't lose my Bruno. I promise I'll take better care of myself. Te amo."

"Te amo Y/n. Rest well."

I feel asleep shortly after he left, thinking about Bruno and his telenovelas.
