'I often feel incomplete without you'

Lily's POV

"Until he killed my mate right in front of me."

This sentence took a while for my brain to process it.

I knew my mate was ruthless and merciless, but going as far as killing his brother's mate, it didn't seem like Xavier would stoop so low as to do that.

I somehow knew that Xavier's brother wasn't lying, though. I could tell by the sad foreign look in his eyes.

I knew I didn't trust Xavier's brother, but no one deserved to have their mate taken away from them.

Clearly, I had underestimated just how cruel Xavier could truly be.

"W-what happened to her?"I cautiously asked.

It took a while for my mate's brother to answer my question. I knew it wasn't any of my business, but I couldn't help but ask.

I felt like I had to.

"Her name was Mirabella. She was beautiful, kind, strong, and favoured in mine and Xavier's parents' pack. She was my mate. Xavier was always jealous of the connection me and Mirabella had.

One day,he kind of just lost it. Mirabella had gone out for a run, and Xavier had gone with her. I had been tracking rogues when I heard her scream."Xavier's brother paused.

Taking a deep breath of air,I watched as he continued.

"When I finally found Mirabella,I saw Xavier standing over her body. She was ripped to shreads, her blood spilt everywhere. Xavier had gone to stay with our grandparents after that.  He eventually took over their pack while I stayed here and took over our parent's pack."he concluded.

He opened the drawer of his desk and pulled out a picture of a girl.

She was laughing and staring happily into the camera. She had long blonde hair and hazel eyes.

"You look just like her."Xavier's brother said.

He stared at me intensely,an odd look in his eyes.

"I'm sorry that happened to you -"I stopped myself, unsure what to stay to the alpha.

"My name is Xander,"he told me,an unknown look in his eyes.

Something about Xander still put me off of him. He kept staring at me as if I were his prey.

He was making me feel uncomfortable and constantly on my guard around him.

That's when I decided to leave. I stood up from the chair, meeting Xander's now narrowed eyes.

"I better be going now, Xander. It was nice meeting you."I said, making my way towards the door.

There was a loud snarl before I was slammed against the wall harshly. Xander stared at me, smelling my scent and sighing.

"No."he said.

He snapped his eyes open, taking a step away from me and collecting himself."I mean, you can stay here. It is not safe for you to be going around by yourself with my brother after you,"he explained himself.

I nodded before Harry opened the door and smiled at me. "Harry will take you to a bedroom,"Xander said, and I nodded.

As we walked down the corridor,I couldn't help but think about Xander. There was something very off-putting about him.

I couldn't place my finger on it,but I felt like there was something Xander had left out when he was telling me about his mate.

Something that was important.

"If you don't close your mouth,a fly is going to enter it,"Harry snapped me out of my thoughts.

I chuckled at his words before realizing we were standing outside of a bedroom door. "Have you never seen a door before or something?"Harry again joked.

I slapped him on the back of the head before opening the door and stepping into the bedroom.

Before I closed the door,I heard Harry shriek loudly. "Gees lady, why do you have to be so violent?!"he complained, making me laugh.

I felt my tiredness catch up to me as I looked around the room. It was smaller than the one I had stayed in at Xavier's pack, but it still felt comfy.

The large king-sized bed looked more and more inviting the longer I stared at it.
I climbed into the bed, closing my eyes.

As I fell asleep, all I could think about was my mate...
