Chapter 9: Start of a relationship
"Onwards, my friends!! To the hallways of death!" Akane marched, walking a few steps ahead of the Sasuke and Momo who are following behind her. Stopping in front of their classroom, the brunette turned to them with a proud smile. "Whelp! This is our classroom! I'll see you around, Momo!"
When she turned to Sasuke, he had a disapproving face on him. Then his eyes fell on her. "You go ahead, Akane. I'll be back later." She just snickered.
"What, walking Momo to her class?" She joked, hoping that would wire up the Uchiha boy, but for some reason he didn't argue back. Instead he just remained silent with an obvious blush on him, so did Momo.
Akane stared wondrously at them, surprised by their reaction. "Ohhh... This is awkward." She wasn't too sure if she should be overly joyed or just play it cool. Not knowing how to respond properly, she just suddenly brought up a big smile. "Uh, 'kay! Bye-bye! Now Sasuke, don't you try anything on her."
That last part she only whispered to him, making him push her face away with his palm. Akane was now half-squealing to herself, hiding behind the door frame to the classroom. As the other two started to walk down the hall, she peeked at them before turning back around to go to her seat.
She was greeted by Sakura walking in after her, but her head was turned to the direction where Sasuke and Momo were heading. "Hey, Akane! Who's that with Sasuke-kun?" She asked, taking her seat by her.
Akane grinned while laying out her folder in a slam. "That, my friend, is Momo Watari!" The pinkette rose her brows questionably.
"Never heard of her," she muttered, Akane just shrugged. Few minutes after, she spotted the raven haired boy entering their homeroom with a calm composure. Once he began to take his seat diagonally from Akane, she eyed him suspiciously. He had no choice but to notice her behind her chair, so she averted her stare somewhere else.
Sasuke knows what she's thinking.
When class was over, Akane looked over at the Uchiha who is hurriedly cleaning up his desk and hoisting his strap, ready to walk out of the classroom without her. She approached him quickly before he exited out the door. "Sasuke~! Ready to tutor me about the lesson today?" She asked.
He glanced back at her. "Er... Yeah, you go on ahead. I have something to do." Akane frowned in surprise. This is the first time he blew her off. "Just wait for me in the library."
"Uh-" before she can reply back, Sasuke already strode out of the door without an answer. She was dumbstruck. He's acting more than just normal today.
Shrugging, Akane did what she was told as she headed towards the library down the building. Sitting in one of the table where they usually have study sessions, the brunette sat quietly to herself, unable to do anything in her seat. "I should really do something.." She told herself.
Whipping out her pen and paper out, she began to read her short notes in class but she couldn't, due to lack of information on it and messy handwriting scribbled across the paper. "Damn it... I fell asleep again! Sasuke, can I-" then she stopped herself.
Oh yeah, he's not even here yet she can't study on her own. So she planned to just wait for him, but didn't realize that her eyes are starting to get heavy as darkness falls over her vision.
"Akane Chiharu, you're in," she was ordered by a taller man, blowing on his whistle. A smaller brunette immediately cried once she heard her name called.
"But I don't want to play!!" She complained with tears streaming down her face. "I don't like dodgeball!!" One of her classmates approached with a supportive look on her face, tugging her sleeve to bring Akane to the circle.
"It's okay, Akane! We will win if you're in," she told her, making the little child stop crying. Rubbing her tearful eyes, it encouraged Akane to accept the challenge and joined the large circle drawn in chalk. The other kids were laughing at her.
"And go!" The whistle was blown from their instructor as many leathered balls were flying from each side. While Akane desperately hid herself behind other people, they immediately were out. It happened so fast, making her one of the last kids standing in the circle.
As she cowered in the middle of the rink, all sides came flying at her as she luckily dodged in circles. Until one went straight to her face...
"Ah!" Akane bolted from her nap as a bag dropped on the table in front of her. Looking above her, she saw an emotionless expression on the Uchiha's face. Sitting up properly, she began to speak. "What took you so long?"
"Never mind that, we should start studying," he said strictly, making the brunette sigh out of laziness. "You looked like you had a nice dream."
Akane laughed gently as she pulled her pen and paper closer to her stomach. "I was! It was the time when I first met you," she told him. He just shook his head.
"You always have that dream for some reason," he said lowly. "My brother had me to apologize to you when you woke up in the nurse's office. It's so annoying."
"If you hadn't, I wouldn't have met you, would I?" She grinned. That memory is the most precious to Akane, remembering all the details and how it was a spark of their undying friendship. Sasuke just smirked, looking up from his notebook.
"I'm not sure if I'm grateful or not that it happened," he teased.
"How mean... I'm thankful that I've met you!" She retorted, making him chuckle under his breath.
"You just kept on following me after that day. It was like you were a lost duckling," he explained.
"Oh please, you were the one who kept approaching me!"
"I really don't remember that..." Saddened by his words, Akane pouted at him with slumped shoulders. He then stared at her. "Cheeky-"
"I know!!" He chuckled light heartedly at her scream as people around them started to hush at her which she grew red from embarrassment. "I hate you, Sasuke...!"
"No, you don't. You love me," he replied bluntly. Huffed at his statement, Akane blushed as she knowingly does love him, non-romantically. Staring back at him, she leaned her face on her hands, looking a bit interested.
"So," she started with cat smile. "What were you doing while you were gone?" Sasuke stopped writing in his notebook and glanced at her. She waved a finger in a tsking motion. "Don't you lie. You know you can't escape from me."
Pressing his lips together, he began to sweat under his skin so Sasuke closed his eyes as if he was going to get a big lecture of his life by his best friend. "Momo and I are seeing each other." Then he immediately saw stars reflecting in Akane's eyes, opening her mouth to say something. "But we're not dating, just seeing each other," he corrected.
"I know the difference," she laughed. "I see. I knew you were seeing her after class! What else is there for you to get so excited about?"
"Yeah, but don't you announce it to the whole world 'cause there's nothing happening with us... yet," he added, making Akane giggle under her fists. Sasuke is actually thinking about his future relationship with Momo, how cute.
"Don't worry! You have my word, Sasuke! I won't tell a soul! I'll wish you my best of luck!" She soluted proudly as more hushes came from the people sitting around her. The raven boy just shook his head as his hand covered his forehead in shame.
"Akane... You are too much."
