Chapter 31: Arai's Kiss
It was after a week now, and Sasuke and Momo became more than just acquaintances in that matter. Safe to say that they're now friends to begin with, mostly discussing the issue about where he stands with his best friend.
"So you don't think confessing to her about my feelings after a break up isn't the way to go?" Momo nodded at him.
"It almost felt like you need an excuse to cope," she told him, making Sasuke slump his shoulders in shame. "That, or Akane is just confused about it. Your feelings may be one sided."
"But when I kissed her..." But Sasuke trailed suddenly when he saw the shock shown on his ex's face. She never knew that he kissed Akane on the same day he kissed Momo.
Oh shit.
"G-Go on," despite the angry in her voice, Momo pushed the thought of them dated out of her mind. "When you kissed her...?"
"I swore that she felt it, too," this time, Sasuke's voice lowered quietly. Shifting his eyes and shielding his face, he pictured the brunette blushing million shades of red after he told her she tasted like garlic.
By mentioning that, Momo traced over her lips with the pads of her fingers, believing that her kiss with Sasuke wasn't real as the one with Akane.
While the two walked beside each other through the hall, a particular brown headed girl came down the stairs with a couple of pretzel bags in her arms but immediately hid behind corner when her eyes found Sasuke and Momo, walking together.
She nearly gaped.
"W-What the hell?!" she whispered to herself as she stalked them from a few feet behind like a ninja. "Since when did they...? How did they...? But Sasuke!"
Covering her whole mouth, Akane hid herself behind the wall when both Momo and Sasuke turned their heads back.
"Did you hear that?" she heard Sasuke asked. Momo shrugged and muttered a 'I don't know' to him, then proceeded on walking.
That was a close one. Going back to watch them like a hawk, Akane ducked her body into a bush with twigs poking from her hair. But her observation stopped when a figure crept behind her stealthily and made her jump.
"What in the world are you doing?" It was Sakura who approached her.
By her abrupt question, Akane immediately stood up. "Nothing! Just... want to be a bush for the day!"
"Oh really...," she said suspiciously, making the brunette break into cold sweat. "So you can spy on Sasuke and Momo?"
"SPYING?!?!" scoffing, she spat with her tongue out and make weird faces at her. "Pshh... Spying? On them? Ha! I wouldn't spy on them! What makes you say that?"
"Honestly, Akane, I thought it was weird too when I saw them walking around together. If I were you, I would be concerned also," Sakura explained while looking back at the raven couple walking back to the school building. "It's either that or I think you're starting to get jealous."
"Jealous? If anything, I'm quite happy if they get back together! Good for them!" she grinned cheerfully. For some reason, when she said that, a twinge of regret stroke her heart. Although, she did remember Sasuke telling her that he's not planning to get back with her.
If he does, Akane doesn't blame him. She never told him how she felt about him, so it would make sense if he ever thought of making things work with Momo. Yet the idea of it, this time, felt different than the last time when she encouraged them to date.
She shouldn't be jealous of them. It's not her place to be.
"Yoohoo... Akane!" She was snapped from her trance once a hand waved violently in front of her face. Looking up, she saw Arai staring at her with intent eyes. "Er... Your banana sundae is melting."
