Chapter 28: Smooth Move
The first day of the week strolled by, like a fast train, after having an eventful weekend of Sasuke and his change of attitude.
He, Akane, and Sakura walked after class like usual, boasting about the upcoming event of the dance before coming down the steps. When all of a sudden, the Uchiha stopped dead in his tracks as the other two ladies turned to look at him.
"Sorry, I forgot I have to meet up with Shino," he explained solely. "I'll meet you later in front of school?"
Akane nodded, and then he ran towards the direction where the bug-eyed Aburame might be meeting him. After a few seconds of small and girly talk, Sakura beat around the bush to ask the brunette a certain question.
"Hey, Akane. Ever thought of Sasuke liking you?" She caught her attention as her brown eyes lingered innocently at the pinkette.
She hummed and asked naively, "Why would you ask that?"
"I don't know, because you guys are good friends and all. I mean, you hang out with him all the time and you're super close with him," she shrugged suggestively, only to make the brunette ponder. "I wonder if he ever liked you."
"Uh," Akane trailed worriedly. "It would be kind of strange if he likes someone like me. If you think about it, he likes someone who annoys the crap out of him!" She laughed.
Sakura twitched her smile.
"After Momo, he seemed to be more... flirtatious, don't you think?" she hinted while raising her thin brows.
"Maybe he's more relaxed because he finally broke up with her."
"You really think so, Akane?" Sakura reassured obscurely, causing her brown headed friend to question. "It's kinda obvious that he likes you. I wouldn't be surprised if he does."
Just by Sakura's interrogation, it frightened her a bit - to actually think that her best friend would have romantic affections towards her.
Before Akane can retort back, the two heard a soft sniffling from a far when they approached the middle quad of the school. There, sitting alone on the bench, was the dark headed raven by herself. This caught her attention, but Sakura made a distinctive face at Momo's presence.
"Momo!" Akane ran towards her with concerned eyes. "Hey, why are you crying?" In her head, it was quite obvious what she might be upset about, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
"A-Akane-chan...," she replied sadly with tears overflowing her blue gems. When her eyes adjusted on the brunette's worrisome expression, Momo cried. "W-What did I do?! I love Sasuke-kun!"
The more she sobbed, the more Sakura couldn't be able to handle it as she rolled her eyes. It was like watching a kid cry over its broken toy.
Grabbing her hand, the pinkette attempted to pull Akane away from the situation. "Come on, we should go."
"W-Wait. Just a sec," she reverts her hand back and continues to listen to Momo's whimpers.
Sakura glared back at the wordless the girl on the bench and whispered convincingly to the brunette. "Akane, this is not your problem."
"But she's my friend," that statement shut her up and stubbornly stood on the sidelines for Akane to console her. "You can tell me, Momo."
"I, I don't know what I did wrong," she sobbed uncontrollably. "I did everything for him. After today, when I found out that Sasuke won't be having lunch with me anymore, it made me really sad. And to think that it's after school, he won't be walking home with me also. I... I just miss him so much!"
