Chapter Forty-Eight

"How much further have the patrols cleared?" Michonne asked.

"'til the route D river bend. Their rig's about five miles past that. If their story checks out." DJ said.

"Mom, can we go by The Midnight Pack afterwards?" Isabelle asked.

"I was planning on it." I told her.

"What's The Midnight Pack?" Magna asked.

"My community." I told her.

"I thought Alexandria was yours." She said.

"It is. But I also have another community for certain types of people, who stay there. I run that community, alongside my eldest children." I told her.

"My older brother, Alec, is second-in-command. He makes sure that the community is running smoothly. He's to take over when mom gives him the reigns. Then we have Alec's husband, my brother-in-law, Magnus, who is in charge of security. I'm in charge of medical and my boyfriend, Alden here, is in charge of weapons. My younger sister, Athena, is in charge of crops." Isabelle explained.

"Do the adults listen to you all? Your all younger than them." Yumiko said.

"Let's just say, if they don't my mom doesn't play nice." Izzy told them.

"Don't make me out to be some kind of monster. All the members respect you. You have proven yourself and if they didn't, they wouldn't listen to any of you." I told her.

"She's right, babe. The community loves you." Alden told her.

"What happens if this Hilltop doesn't accept us?" Luke asked.

"Mom, is going to let you stay." Judith told them.

"At Alexandria?" Luke asked.

"At The Midnight Pack. Judith here believes you to be good and honest people. I believe in her judgement. If Hilltop doesn't work, you'll be able to stay at my community." I told them.

"If we go there, will we have jobs?" Yumiko asked.

"Every person does. We first have everyone trained in every area. How to make weapons, grow crops, basic medical training, how to use weapons properly, and the rules of the community. Afterwards, we give you the area you excel in." I told them.

"Wow. That's amazing." Yumiko said.

"Thanks. My community is very strong." I told her.

We quieted down, once we reached the area, they got overrun in.

"Oh, no. Sickos tore the damn place up. Look at this place." Luke said.

"You stay close to me Judith." I told her.

She nodded.

"I didn't think it would be this bad." Yumiko said.

"Is this that's all left?" Connie asked.

As we came to a stop, the others got off the wagon and looked around.

"The herd you ran from did all this?" Michonne asked.

I got off the horse, helping Judith down, as the others checked the area. Isabelle, and Alden stayed with Judith and I as we watched the horses.

"No. A bigger one must've come through here." Magna told her.

"Mom." Judith said.

I looked at her.

"Go on." I told her. As she ran, I turned to the others. "Alden." I called.

"I got her." He told me as he followed her.

I nodded my head in thanks. I watched as Magna and Michonne got in an argument.
