Chapter 19: Food Wars -- Morphing Furikake --

"Okay we are back for the Food Wars viewing," said Mira.

"If I remember correctly this will a continuation from last time," said Nezu.

"That's right. This will be a continuation viewing from yesterday," said Mira.

"I can't wait to see what the dish actually looks like," said Koro-sensei.

"Then let's begin," said Mira.

[--"Morphing" Furikake--
" "Morphing"...furikake rice?" asked Erina.
"Yep! Hang on just a minute...it's almost done," said Soma.
'Soma Yukihira...what sort of dish does he think to present to me?' thought Erina.
"Order up!" said Soma.
'Wait, he really is just making a fool of me!' thought Erina.
'Oh my gosh...it really is just furikake rice. Does he really think to earn miss Erina's approval...with a common dish like this?!' thought Hisako.
"This concludes today's test. Completely out of the question," said Erina.
'My palate is so refined, it is called the "Divine Tongue." I have taste-tested dishes from the world's top chefs since I was little. Specialty dishes from three-star parisian chefs. Chefs who hail from restaurants with reservation waiting lists measured in years. Only the pinnacle of luxury and high fashion is place on my table,' thought Erina.]

"I'm guessing that you were asked to taste a lot of different dishes," said Bonten Mikey.

"Yes, ever since I was very young I was taste testing dishes," said Erina.

"That must have been very hard on a young girl," said Mic.

['A haute-cuisine heaven for gourmands! That is the world i which I live. And he dares precent to me this furikake dish, which barely even qualifies as cooking?' thought Erina.
"Hmph. A second-rate cook with a third-rate dish after all. You haven't stirred my appetite in the dish yet," said Erina.
"But you haven't even seen the full shape of the dish yet," said Soma.

"Have a look for yourself," said Soma.
'The real value of furikake only shines...when you pour it over piping-hot white rice!' thought Soma.

"Now that's an interesting way to make that dish," said Nezu.

"I got to wonder how Erina will react to the dish," said Nagisa.

"Yeah, I have to see that too. No offence but you judging the food even before you tasted the dish," said Izuku.

"What they are saying is true. You always need to taste your dished or even taste you competers dishes to compare. Same goes for taste testing any type of dish," said the Dean.

['Oh! The heat of the rice is melting the cubes! As they melt...they're counting all of the egg curds! Aaah! This scent...chicken? Yes! This is the mellow yet robust scent...of thoroughly simmered chicken! So this...is the true face of his morphing furikake rice! It looks utterly different from its first presentation. I wonder....what it taste like?' thought Erina.
"One bite! I will be generous and taste a single bite for you. If you want to hear my judgement...hand over that bowl!!" said Erina.]

"It looks so good!" said Mikey.

"Oh, yeah that does look good," said Denki.

"Looks like Erina really wants to have a taste," said Kanako.

["Dig in!" said Soma.
'Ah! I-I can't believe I forgot! I was so lost in tasting, I didn't judge it! But what was that texture?' thought Erina.
"What's this? Goin' for a second bite? I thought you said you'd only taste one," said Soma.
"Do you have a problem with that?!" said Erina.
'This texture...,' thought Erina.
"You used an aspic," said Erina.
"Bingo! Those golden cubes under the egg...are a chicken aspic!" said Soma.
'So what's a "aspic"? Easy! It's a jelly made from the chilled broth of gelatin-rich meats and fishes,' thought Soma.
"I simmered chicken wings in bonito broth seasoned with sake and light soy sauce. This drew the chicken's natural savory flavor and gelatin into the broth. I quickly chilled that resulting broth until it gelled, and then cut it into small cubes," said Soma.
'Aha! It was the aspic he was making in that enormous pot,' thought Erina.
"Sprinkle the cubes over piping hot rice and the rich chicken aspic will melt and coat the egg curds with a "ploop"!" said Soma.
'I see. In other words...the aspic is really a thick, rich and savory chicken soup! The full-bodied and salty flavor of the aspic broth...brings out the soft, mild sweetness of the egg curds perfectly. Not only that, each bite is a heaven of fluffy smoothness. In every way, the aspic is emphasizing and magnifying the deliciousness of the eggs! This...,' thought Erina.]

"That is interesting face about cooking," said Riko.

"Hopefully you can learn some stuff from this," said Hyuga.

"Why did he say it like that," asked Akashi.

"Coach doesn't really know who to cook food. She tries but it turns out really bad each time," said Kagami.

"It can't be that bad," said Bakugo.

"Yes it can," said Hyuga.

['This is unlike any dish I have ever tasted! It is a world of flavor completely unknown to me!' thought Erina.
"Well? Whatcha think? Aren't you glad you didn't just leave?" said Soma.
"B-be quiet! I'm still judging!" said Erina.
"Furikake is a common, dirt cheap dish. But with a bit of creativity, you can turn it into a master piece! This...is Yukihira cooking!" said Soma.
'The Totsuki Institute is the pinnacle of the cooking world. It is a holy land for first class chefs and gourmands. Someone like me, who lives in this heaven of haute cuisine...cannot even think of accepting all this! Not this epitome of the common plebian...nor the cheap peasant food he cooks. I cannot...accept...this flavor!' thought Erina.]

"It seems like your struggling not to react to his food there," said Mitsuya.

"I have to wonder how good Soma's cooking will get later on," said Suga.

['It's almost like being stroked...by the soft, white feathers of...angels?! Go away! Leave me alone!' thought Erina.
"H-hey!" said Erina.
'I-I don't want to accept it...but my tongue...my body...th-they can't help but react!' thought Erina.
"Yeah, Yukihira is just a tiny restaurant. And I don't doubt you guys are the culinary world's upper crust. Still...if all you're doing is sitting on your laurels up at the top...I think there's stuff out there you just can't make," said Soma.
"Miss Erina," said Hisako.
"Well? How is Yukihira's furikake rice? Good? Bad? Say it!" said Soma.]

"From the looks of it. The food itself is more then likely good from how Erina is behaving. But She may not say that is good because of her thought process may make her say something different," said Nezu.

"That's what I was thinking as well. But you got to wonder what made Erina think like that," said Koro-sensei.

"I know it's more than likely going to show what happened in my past but I will tell you this that how I behave is partly due to my father," said Erina.

["Hello? Maman? Maman, is that you? The judge was her, Maman! Erina Nakiri! It was the worst luck of the draw, Maman! I never would've made it. I want to go home! You! W-wait...don't tell me the Erina Nakiri passed you?!" said Yoshiaki.
"Um, no. I failed," said Soma.
'Whaaa?!' thought Soma.

"Good? Bad? Say it!" said Soma.
"It...it was disgusting!" said Erina.
'Whaaa...?!' thought Soma.

'How dare he?! How dare he?! How dare he?!' thought Erina.
"How! Dare! He! Taking such a commanding tome with me...," said Erina.
'Me! Erina Nakiri!' thought Erina.
"Ow!" said Erina.
'Soma Yukihira...The Totsuki Institute does not need your sort around!' thought Erina.
"Hello? This is Erina. Please connect me with my grandfather, the dean of the institute. About today's transfer exam...of all the applicants...zero qualified," said Erina.]

"Ah, man. Nezu was right," said Mic.

"What did you except. He is right most of the time in our world," said Aizawa.

"You know, what you said to my son was more of a challenge and not an insult," said Joichiro.

"I'll give everyone five minutes to walk around and talk among yourselves about what we watched then we will continue watching the next viewing for Demon Slayer," said Mira.
