JJ's POV

"Agent Jareau?" A voice calls from outside my office.

"It's open." The man enters my office and over to me.

"Detective Cal McGee, Kansas City P.D. I called last week about some missing people in downtown Kansas City." Cal tells us.

"Uh, right, right. Um... I'm sorry. Didn't I ask you to send me your files first?"

"Yeah. Um, about that, I--I don't, uh, have any files. No--no one's actually been reported missing yet. It's--it's more like a theory. Um... Brought you the most relevant ones. I have, um, like, forty more of them. I catalogue everybody I come in contact with on the street-- um, names, descriptions, uh, what they're wearing, identifying marks. Anyways, my department assigned me to keep an eye on downtown, uh, skid row, dopers, um, hooker stroll, whatnot. Typical stuff. And everything was going good until I started noticing there were less and less every week." Cal says before handing me the book and I look in it.

"Of..."

"Of-- of them. Less vagrants, less-- less prostitutes, less junkies strung out on the corners." Cal tells me.

"Well, sounds to me like you're doing a good job."

"Yeah, that's what my bosses think. I actually, uh... Got an award last week from the mayor's office. But clearly I'm not doing a good job. Crime went down because the people committing the crimes have disappeared. And-- and then, over the last several weeks, people seem to be disappearing at a couple a day." Cal tells me when Dorothea enters the office and was looking for something.

"Dorothea, what are you looking for?"

"Sorry Mama. Was just looking for my journal and I remembered that I brought it here." Dorothea explained to me before turning to face Cal.

"Hi. I am Dorothea Prentiss-Jareau." Dorothea introduces herself to Cal.

"Detective Cal McGee, Kansas City P.D." Cal introduces himself to my daughter before she leaves and I give him a smile.

"Sorry about that. Isn't that the nature of these particular groups is that they're transient?"

"No. No. N-not this many this fast. I-I'm telling you, I can... I can talk to somebody at lunch, and by dinnertime, they're wiped off the face of the earth." Cal tells me.

"Okay. Um, how many is it?"

"Sixty-three." Cal tells me.

"Sixty-three people?"

"At least sixty-three... sixty-three people that I regularly used to see are just not there anymore. And then last week, I, um... I got this in the mail at the station house." Cal says before handing me a letter.

"There are two types of people in the world. Those who do the work and those who take the credit. You should be ashamed."

"Somebody else knows that I'm getting praised for something that I did not do." Cal tells me.

"Sixty-three people. You're--you're sure about this?"

"Something is happening out there, Agent Jareau... Something bad." Cal says and I couldn't help but agree.

Emily's POV

"You aren't sure whether anyone is in fact missing." Aaron asks Cal.

"No, I--I am sure. I just can't seem to convince anyone else of it." Cal says.

"There's been no official investigation?" Aaron asks Cal, who shakes his head in response.

"Sixty-three people can't be coincidence, right?" JJ asks.

"Reid, any stats on the percentages of, um well, I don't really know how to phrase the question." Derek asks Spencer.

"Homeless who go missing? The very nature of homelessness suggests a lifestyle of fluidity, yet honestly, they're not as transient as you would think. They generally stay in small, well-defined areas based on familiarity and what services are nearby." Spencer says.

"So--so you're saying they don't just disappear." Cal asks Spencer.

"Not normally, but I mean, that doesn't preclude the possibility." Spencer states.

"Names, addresses, descriptions. Do--do you have any information that might help us find them again?" Penelope asks Cal.

"I--I didn't have a need for it at the time." Cal tells us.

"Do you have enough here to see if they've been reported missing by someone?"

"I--I ran them all through our computers and came up blank." Cal explains.

"None of them turned up deceased? Checked the morgues and the hospitals?" Jason asks.

"I--I have checked everywhere, sir." Cal says.

"Simply being gone isn't a federal issue. We're going to need an official invitation into your jurisdiction." Aaron says.

"An official?" Cal asks.

"Police chief, chief of detectives. It has to come down through the chain of command. We have no authority to look into this. Unless we are officially asked, we can't help you." Aaron says.

"Jurisdictional issues aren't open for debate. Sorry. It's out of our hands." Jason says.

"Uh, Hotch... There could be sixty-three victims here." JJ says.

"Well, I suppose you and I could go back with the detective and talk to his commanders and try to impress upon them the serious implications. If we get an invitation, we could send for the rest of you. I just don't want to give the appearance that we're running over them." Aaron says.

"Thank you sir!" Cal says before he notices that Aaron took his books.

"If you could leave your notebooks with us, we can unofficially go over them and maybe develop some more information."

"How about I show you, uh, which people aren't around anymore and you can copy down all the information." Cal tells us.

"Okay. Well, you heard Agent Hotchner. You got thirty minutes to brief us on sixty-three people." Derek tells Cal.

Dorothea's POV

"Ready to learn how to rollerblade?" Elle says before helping me stand up on the ground. Mommy and Mama are working on a case involving missing homeless people, so Elle is watching me once again.

"I am scared."

"I won't let go until you're ready. I promise Dorothea." Elle says before we start rollerblading and she was keeping her promise not to let go.

"You're doing so well Dorothea." Elle says.

"Can you let go but still be near me?"

"Of course little dove." Elle says before letting me go and I start rollerblading on my own.

"I am doing it!"

"You sure are little dove." Elle says with a smile on her face.
