I stifle a yawn as Valen tries to inform me on the drama he's heard from Jake. My rest last night was interrupted, and I'm starting to worry. If I could afford it, I'd try to get a counselor.

I probably should've when West urged me to months ago.

"... and Andy Stantfore broke up with Jessica W." Valen ends, looking back at me. "That's all Jake's told us.

I hum. "I thought Andy and Jessie broke up two months ago?"

Valen thinks for a moment. "Yeah? Maybe?"

His eyes hold mine for a moment before I shift mine down. His voice quiets. "I'm sure tonight we'll hear a lot more drama."

I chuckle, my eyes closing. "Valen, we'll be the subject of a lot of that drama."

My eyes open, and I see his soft smile. His eyes glue to mine, and we sit for a moment, gazing at each other.

When I can't handle it anymore, I look down at my book.

He clears his throat, and I hear him shuffle a little. "Uh, well. Tonight is the official... unofficial, I guess. Do you—Should we kind of say a few facts about each other, or something? So we don't look super unprepared?"

I look back up and feel an odd sensation as I notice his eyes are moving around the books in the library. Is it relief at not meeting his ethereal eyes again? Mostly, but... there's something else.

"Well, we could do that," I ponder. "But we haven't been 'talking' for long. I know when Amber went on a few dates with that guy a few years ago, she couldn't tell me hardly anything about him."

His face is unreadable, his eyes still scanning the books.

I continue. "As the 'relationship' progresses, though, we will need to get to know each other a lot more."

He nods slowly. His eyes catch mine again and hold them until the bell rings. It isn't but a few seconds, but it feels like a lot longer.

We walk into lunch together, but once we near my table, we part. He waves behind him at me, grinning ear to ear. I can't help the grin that responds. I turn back to the table to see three wide sets of eyes.
