"There is no second chance for the dead."

The motorcycle ride didn't murder my hair nearly as much as I expected.
Valen gently tries to settle it as I hand the helmet back to him. His face pulls in cute determination as he battles my frizz.
He finally gives up and tucks some locks behind my ears. "Was it bad?"
"Nope," I settle. "I really like riding. I just worry about my hair if wash day isn't coming up soon."
I wave bye to him and hurry into the house, turning around one last time to wave and see him wave back before closing the door behind me.
Juliette is lounging on the couch, phone in hand and smile on face. She's glancing up at the tv every few seconds. 10 Things I Hate About You is playing, and West is sitting on the couch, grumbling.
"This movie is stupid. Why can't the guy just go for a girl that will like him?" West complains.
Juli throws a pillow at him, and I notice a few more pillows near him.
I hurry upstairs to change into something comfortable, hurriedly taking a wet wash cloth and wiping the paint off my skin. I hurry back down and jump onto the couch beside Juliette. She pulls me to her with her left arm, her right hand still clutching her phone. I peek over and see her texting Jason, her boyfriend. She smacks my arm and pushes me away, laughing.
The movie comes to a climax, and Juli and I quote it while West sniffles in his chair.
As soon as the movie ends, Juliette jumps off the couch, running to her room. West and I share a glance, and he shrugs in confusion.
"Hey," West breaks the comfortable silence. "How's the Hunter situation? Is your 'relationship' with Valen helping it? Is Valen treating you okay? Did he speed tonight?"
I give him a look that conveys all my annoyance. "West, we just started fake-dating. Hunter doesn't even know yet. And Valen is exactly the opposite of the rumors. He didn't really speed tonight... Just the usual five over. And he's kind. I like hanging out with him."
"What about Sam?" West asks, and my mood sours. "He's... not taking it well, and I'm seeing a side of him I don't like."
"Not taking it well," I scoff. "Is a major understatement. He's turned into a controlling, possessive jerk."
West bites his lip, and his brows furrow in thought. "You know, it's not the first time I've seen this side of him. Be careful, please."
