"What a plot twist you were"
(Atticus).|◁ II ▷|
I get out of a quick, cold shower and towel myself off. Wednesday workouts for football have taken over my day, and I still need to study Nico's music.
I am going to get this date.
I throw some clothes on and sit down at my desk. I pull out an old spiral notebook.
Rikkard would think this is so cheesy. Jake would say I'm emasculated.
I shake my head. No. Doesn't matter. This is for Nico. This isn't cheesy and this doesn't emasculate me because this is love. I'd do anything for Nico, and I know how bright her smile will be when she sees this.
Is that creepy?
Maybe I'm a creepy person.
I scribble "V's favorites" at the top of the paper, ripping it out of the notebook when I finish. Pausing, I look at my phone and tap the Spotify link Nico sent me.
The app opens.
Nico's playlist appears.
I stare at it.
This is it. This is the beginning of something new, tentative, and surreal.
I press the play button.
An upbeat song comes on. I listen with my eyes closed, trying to figure out what Nico loves about this song. I can see her in the music. I can see her loving the steady beat. The chorus hits, and my eyes fly open. This is actually really good.
If I love the rest of these songs, this will be an easy victory for me.

After an hour and twenty-four minutes, I exhale and rub at my eyes.
I really am whipped. What is wrong with me?
My eyes finally look at the paper, seeing the finished product. In messy, scrawled writing, the paper looks like a homework assignment.
