"Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind"

My frustration builds as he visibly displays his strength by showing her his flexed muscles. By the time I've made it to the table, he's asking for her number, ignoring the polite rejection she has written all over her face. As her gentle rejection comes, though, his smirk only grows, and he releases a "come on," from his filthy, vazey mouth.
I stop a little bit before the table, giving it a foot of space. I dare this guy to try again.
He does. Nico once again says she isn't interested.
Nico can handle herself, but it doesn't mean she should have to. Especially when I'm here.
"Hey, man," I speak up, finally walking up to the table. "She isn't interested. You have to respect her."
He turns, looking stupidly confused. "'Respect her'? I am."
"She said no," I reword harshly, incensed that he's pressuring my girl. "That means you leave."
"She seemed hesitant, though," he counters, standing from the table.
Sadly, he's only about an inch shorter than me. And he's bulkier than I am. That doesn't mean he's stronger, though.
"I'm her boyfriend," I seethe. "You better back the hell up."
The dude has the effrontery to turn around and say to Nico, "You sure you don' want my number, sweetheart?"
Nico closes her eyes and shakes her head with mild distaste.
The dude scoffs and leaves, and I slide into the seat. "Man, some people are insane."
Nico smiles and shakes her head. "Thank you, Valen."
Valen.
As we sit drinking our hot chocolate, I let my eyes wander over Nico, taking in her beautiful eyes, dark hair, and her strong facial structure hidden beneath an adorable layer of fat. She's beautiful. She's gorgeous. Breathtaking. Ethereal, even.
I'd need a thesaurus to describe her beauty, but even then, it would never be enough. I'd need to be a poet to describe her allure, but even then, I would never be good enough.
I pull myself out of my self-consciousness as we leave the shop and go a few doors down to the bookstore. As Nico sees the books, she lets out a quiet noise of excitement and disappears among the cozy aisles.
