Valen has eaten four of the six rolls I made. I watch him grab a fifth before he points out a possible scene. I snap back into it, turning the paper back towards me.

"Hm, I like that," I decide. I grab a pencil and scribble the scene out.

I look up to see him eyeing the sixth roll. Man, how does this guy eat so much without a blink and still look so athletically slim? I know that V-shape isn't possible if he usually eats this many carbs.

Such a pervert, Nico.

"You can have it," I direct him.

His eyes widen and he looks at me, rushing through his words, dragging the ends together in one big, long, slow word or alternatively a quite fast few sentences. "Oh, well... you made them. I didn't mean to eat that many. I'm sorry."

I pick up the roll and tear it in half, offering him the smaller part. He glances up at me before he takes it.

We work for a good thirty minutes with no interruptions before Juliette reappears, and her eyes go to Valen. He sits up straight, and she makes a odd face at him in silent communication. What in the world?

"Juli," I voice.

She looks at me, her eyes wide in guilt of getting caught. I make a shooing motion at her, and she eye rolls me. I wish mom would walk in and watch her. Mom would have a cow.

As if adhering to my wishes, the front door unlocks and groans open. All eyes snap to it. Mom does walk through, but West follows her closely, heaving side bags of groceries. Mom carries two.

When Mom sees Valen, she drops her bags and lets out a sound of pure elation. West protests at the sight of the two bags on the ground, a random bottle rolling from it.

"Hi!" Mom calls, walking over. Valen stands up to greet her, and Mom wraps her arms around him. I stand as well.

Valen's eyes find mine from over Mom's shoulder, wide in panic. I beam back at him, and his panic subsides into a small smile. Mom finally releases Valen.

"Hey, Ms. Vaughan. I'm Nico's friend, Valen Henford," Valen greets her, introducing himself.

Huh, I guess this is the first time they're officially meeting.

She pats his shoulder. "It's nice to officially meet you, Valen. Call me Ms. Jenny. How're you doing, darlin'?"

"Oh, I'm doing great, Ms. Jenny," he responds, that small smile still settled on his face.
