"i'll never be that me again"
(b.m.).|◁ II ▷|
My bike rumbles for a moment before I turn it off. I remove my helmet and gloves, stashing the latter in my backpack. The bright sun is hot against the black leather of my jacket, and I shrug it off, carelessly leaving it and my helmet draped on the seat of my bike.
Rikkard pulls in a second later, sans jacket and taking his helmet with him. "'Sup, Valen."
"Hey, man."
We walk up the steps, pushing the door open. Quite a few people flutter around the halls, some glancing at phones to make sure there's still ten minutes left until first bell.
Jake rounds the corner, sees us, and proceeds to hold his arms out and his head up, closing his eyes dramatically. "Jake's here."
I stop right before him, but Rikkard pushes past him. Jake doesn't acknowledge it but instead turns to follow him. Confused, I do the same.
"Guys," Jake sighs wistfully. "I'm in as much love as I think I'll ever be."
"Well, that's new," I remark.
Rikkard laughs shortly.
"She's blonde," Jake continues, his smirk wide and sort of obnoxious. "She's got huge tits. She does have sort of a stomach, though, but her—"
"What's her name?" I ask, growing agitated.
"Um, Rebecca? Maybe it's Re... Rita?" Jake purses his lips, his hands in his pockets. "Not sure, but it doesn't matter. She's the hottest thing I've ever done. And the best."
"That's not love," I mutter.
He laughs, bumping Rikkard's shoulder. Rikkard moves sharply away from him, a comical sight because of their seven-inch height difference.
"Valen, you don't know what love is, man," Jake ignorantly states. "All Nico is is an obsession. Like Raea. Rea. R—Remi? Love isn't real, anyways."
It's silent for a moment. I'm starting to wonder why we're still friends with Jake.
"Hey, Rikkard," Jake sniffs. "How's the old man doin'?"
Rikkard doesn't answer him.
I sigh harshly. "Jake... I'm not even sure what to say to you. You don't respect either of us, and I'm starting to wonder why we're friends with you. Back off of us, and respect our feelings."
Rikkard hums in what I think is agreement.
I continue in my thoughts. "Telling me Nico is only an obsession when I notice every little thing about her and when she's the only nice girl in my life who doesn't care about my money...That's not cool, man. Don't tell me how I feel. Bringing up Rike's home life is a dick move, especially when you can't understand any of it yourself. Until you take it seriously, leave him alone."
