Chapter TWO

I finished packing up my ballet stuff into my bag. I changed into my normal shoes and walked outside to my car. I drove forwards the diner where I had agreed to meet Emmett and parked right outside.

I hopped out of my car and walked inside. I saw I'm sitting in a corner waiting with the school stuff on the table. I walked over to the table and sat down.

" Hello Madeleine " He said and smiled at me.

" Hi Emmett " I said and surprised myself with actually remembering his name.

" Glad you could come even if you're late " He said.

I looked at the clock and it said 7:27. Oh I was late.

" Sorry Ballet practice went over time today " I said and almost internally slapped myself, why was I saying sorry? That's not like me at all, especially not meaning it.

" It's okay, I'm glad you arrived safely " He said and smiled. A small smile came up over my face for a few seconds before I forced it away.

" Let's start, I gotta me home soon " I said and opened the books to start reading.

" You've got a curfew? What time? " He asked.

" Yes, at 9. " I answered back still looking into the book.

" Then let's get started " He said and we started working. Or he worked for the most part, I actually didn't understand anything. Biology have never been my strong suit, I'm much better at math and English.

I kept rereading and rereading information because I didn't understand and I actually felt embarrassed.

" Are you okay? " He asked after a little while when he noticed I had ent write anything down for some time.

" Yes " I answered back with no confidence.

" Is it difficult for you? " He asked and closed the book he was reading. I was about to answer with a lie when I looked into his eyes. They looked soft and nonjudgmental.

" Yes.... I'm sorry " I said in a little voice and turned away from his gaze.

" It's okay Madeleine " He said and started to explain some things to me. This time tho I actually understood. I looked at the clock and saw that it said 8:35. I started to pack up my things while he wrote down some last minute sentences.

We stood up and I didn't know what to say so I just started to walk outside to my car. When I arrived at my car door and turned around I saw that he had followed me.

" I gotta go home now " I said and looked up to him.

" Of course " He said and opened my door for me. I sat down in my seat.

" Thank you Emmett " I said wholeheartedly.

" It's nothing, I'll see you at school tomorrow? " He asked while he continued to look at me. It kind of baffled me how easy it was for him to stare at people for so long without feeling embarrassed.

" Yeah I think so " I answered, in reality I hadn't planned to go to school tomorrow but I had changed my mind just now.

" Drive home safe Madeleine " He said and closed my car door. I started my car and backed out of the parking lot, he stood still watching me drive away. I looked back one last time before I couldn't see the diner. He was now getting into his car and drove the other way away from me.

I sat back down more into my car seat and breathed out a big breath. Somehow this evening of studying hadn't been the worst thing to ever happen.
