" So what are you planning to buy Bella for her birthday? " Alice asked as she sneaked up on me in the hallway.

" I can't " I said ashamed.

" What do you mean? " She continued.

" I'm cut off, I don't have any money and my grandma destroyed my credit card " I said and felt more ashamed by the second. I looked down at the ground, I really wanted to get Bella something. She meant so much to me. They all did.

" Hey Madeleine! It's not your fault! This doesn't make you a bad friend. And it's easily fixable! " She said and looked as happy as usual.

" It does. I have no money or means to get her a birthday present and I mostly likely won't be able to go to the party " I said and sighed.

" You do got money. Emmett has fixed a card for you and we will sneak you out so you can come to the party. You don't have to worry so much" She said and smiled.

" I can't accept that, I've already taken so much. You know with the hospital bills and with me staying with you over the summer. I can't possibly take anything more from you " I quickly said.

" We're Family Madeleine, that's what we do. We support and help each other " Alice said and kissed my cheek before walking away to her class.

I sighed and walked towards the parking lot, already dreading going to the place I no longer felt safe at. I saw my grandmother and my mother already standing outside waiting for me. I looked at the ground while walking up to them hoping they wouldn't say anything. But as usual I was wrong.

" You're one minute and forty-five seconds late " My grandmother explained and looked at me with anger.

" Explain yourself " She continued.

" Alice wanted to speak with me " I answered truthfully.

" About what? "

" A assignment " I lied.

She just huffed and pushed me inside the car. I sat in the backseat with tears threatening to fall. I hated my life. All I wanted was to be with Emmett. One month and one day until my eighteenth birthday, and then I was free.
