CHAPTER 12: WHAT DO I HAVE TO LOSE ANYWAY?

He brought me quickly to the wide and open garden beside the hotel buildings which is still a part of the Emperor Hotels and Resorts. Along the way, tumawag siya ng isang tauhan na sundan kami.

"Look after her for a while. If anything bad happens to her, I'll make sure to have your license revoked," nagulat ako sa itinuran ni Ivan nang makarating kami sa ligtas na parte ng garden, malayo sa restaurant.

"Masusunod po, Sir!" the guard who followed us sternly answered.

Revoke his license? Isn't that too much?

But I couldn't say anything when he faced me and this time, unlike when he was facing the guard with a serious expression, he looked at me softly. He took off his black suit jacket and placed it across my shoulders, "I'll be right back. Check ko lang kung anong nangyari, okay? Everything's going to be fine. Just stay here and don't go anywhere. I'll take you home."

"A-ah," I gulped, "O-okay. Take care, Ivan. I'll wait for you here."

His lips formed into a small smile, slightly squeezing my arms before nodding at the security guard and quickly went back.

My hands held the lapels of his suit jacket, pulling it closer around my body, making me feel warm and comfortable. Sinundan ng mga mata ko ang likod niya habang naglalakad siya papalayo hanggang sa tuluyan na siyang nawala sa paningin ko.

I raised my gaze up to the dark blue skies dotted with twinkling whites. My hands gripped his suit tighter when the cold wind of the night blew.

Tahimik kong pinagmasdan ang garden ng hotel sa aking kapaligiran. It has an exquisite landscaping design--a three-tiered fountain in the middle, its waters shined and sparkled like diamonds under the grace of its built-in lights. The fountain is encircled around with a cobblestone pathway lined with benches that are meters apart from each other and tall, shaped, and decorated bushes. There were also some flower bushes here and there. The cobblestone pathways leads to different areas in the garden. It feels so foreign and beautiful, the kind of atmosphere you would experience when you go to a different country for the first time that's completely different from your home that you're used to, but still beautiful.

"Kuya Guard," tawag ko kay kuya na nakabantay lang sa akin at matuwid na nakatayo. He was being too strict with himself. Tinakot kasi ni Ivan, ahh.

"Yes, Ma'am?"

I pointed at one of the benches around the fountain, "Doon po tayo."

He nodded then followed me when I walked towards it, clutching Ivan's suit on me. I could feel my insides calming down when I smelled his familiar musky cologne.

Ang bango.

Umupo ako sa bench. Inaya ko si Kuya na umupo rin para hindi siya mapagod kakatayo ngunit tumanggi siya kaya hindi ko na pinilit.

Malalim akong napabuntunghininga habang pinagmamasdan yung fountain sa harap ko.

Bumigat ang mga talukap ng aking mga mata habang blankong nakatingin rito.

In all honesty, what just happened felt like a bad omen to me.

Hindi ko mapaliwanag pero pakiramdam ko, may mali talaga.

I smiled at myself... my whole existence right now was never right in the first place.

The thing is, I was about to ask him earlier kung ano ba talaga kami, then that explosion happened.

I just wanted to hear from his mouth what we really are and then that happened...
