The head cannon goes like this so at Darkly's they never got much if any sweets.
The teachers would sometimes give them pillow mints for birthdays and Christmas which made them taste that much sweeter.
Lloyd is still used to seeing them as a sort of present and when he has them it brings him back to his childhood ( The good parts of his childhood ).
Lloyd hasn't told anyone about his obsession but they can guess very easily because whenever they give him pillow mints he has this look on his face that makes him look like a sweet innocent child again one without all that trauma.
One time Nya got him an entire bag because she knows how much he likes them and he was so happy he looked like a little kid at a candy store.
