Summary: Logan and Roman take the creative writing elective together, which means they have the perfect opportunity to chat. Chat about Logan's obvious crush on their shared best friend. And Roman has a realisation about his feelings towards the more anxious best friend, too.

Petition for more friendly Logince fanart. This above was the closest to totally platonic teasing XD.

It was fourth period and Logan had Creative Writing, his second elective of sophomore year. And it was a lot more relaxing than his other elective class – it just involved writing about a chapter a week and planning a presentation or two. Also, there was no adorable boy taking all his attention (unless he managed to remember his existence in this said elective too).

"Has the mystery been solved yet, Sherlock?" The main reason Logan couldn't get Patton out of his mind in this class was because of his neighbour in the seating plan. Roman King – the chatty one of the group, and not in the cute way like Patton.

"Can't solve the mystery with three assignments left Ro." Logan nonchalantly chewed the end of his pen as he examined his last draft. The detective had just found the red herring in the story – the footprint in the snow wasn't a woman in high heels, it was a man in heels instead as an act of sabotage. Why did everything have to be ironic?

Logan could see Roman smirk out of the corner of his eye – looking away from his drafts which was usually the reason for his smile. "I know the answer to your mystery." The theatre nerd giggled while Logan just raised an eyebrow. He didn't know how to respond to that, he didn't know the social cues. Wait – was he talking about the draft or Patton? There should be one moment Logan didn't have a question about something.

Fortunately, Logan didn't need to know the answer straight away as the teacher began the lesson, waffling about extended similes. Last year Logan would never consider any teacher to waffle about any topic. But since Patton – there were a lot more interesting things to think about than algebra or similes. After a few weeks Logan finally felt safe indulging in these thoughts in his lonesome mind.

"You're blushinggggg..." Roman excitedly whispered in Logan's ear as he got to the climax of his imagination about Patton's baby blue eyes. "Who are you dreaming about? Is it our precious little Patton-cake?"

Everyone in class was chatting amongst themselves, the environment has moved onto a partner discussion anyway. Still, it felt like everyone in the world was staring directly at Logan and Roman right now. "Falsehood." He could only say one word, before turning back to his textbook in silence. Don't think about Patton, and his freckled cheeks, and his infectious laugh... Shit, he literally can't stop thinking about Patton.

"Good thing you're not in theatre because you're a real bad liar." Roman giggled again, leaning back and giving Logan a look of taunt. "Will you tell him?"

"No way. And I know it's useless telling you that because I know you'll tell him." Logan turned to the side to Roman, expecting the chaos energy to nod and agree, but he just gave a confused look.

The teen came closer to Logan, leaned his elbow over to his desk, and gave such a quietly earnest glance that seemed alien on him. He was always so jokey and playful. "I would never. I know how vulnerable you feel during your first gay crush, and I know even the pressure of this conversation right now can fuck with your journey. Just tell me you like him because it's relieving to say it – and I'll leave you at that."

Logan grounded himself to realise that this conversation wasn't the centre of the entire world. Everyone was working on the task or moving onto other conversation – he and Roman were just having one of those. Logan just needed to say three words, yet he felt the impulse to dig his nails into his forearm again. So even though it was three words... He just couldn't do it.

But as the teacher began to speak again, he couldn't take his mind off those three small words. Well, if his mouth can't say the words he wants to, maybe his writing can.

Roman raised an eyebrow as he watched Logan hurriedly rip a corner off his exercise book, and he clicked his pen a few times as if hesitating what he wanted to write. All Roman could do was smile as he watched the precious moment happen. Logan quickly scribbled onto the paper and threw it over – allowing Roman to read the words: 'I like Patton'.

Logan felt a breath he didn't know he was holding come out as the paper went onto Roman's desk. He was just met with a smile but Roman was right – he did feel super relieved that someone finally knew.

*******

By now, Roman felt like the master at reassuring people of their sexuality and crushes. He was the kid at recess in elementary school that organised all the childhood dates and marriages that needed to be done, in middle school he was the matchmaker for the 'excitable' pre-teen theatre kids, and in eighth grade he had experience of one of his best friends asking for advice on their first gay crush.

Virgil and Roman used to have regular FaceTime calls together – as Virgil was amazing at keeping Roman focused on the ever-important middle school homework. They still talked of course, and the recent conversations surrounded Virgil's sexuality as he had recently come out of the closet.

"I do like girls, I loved my girlfriend in Orlando, but we just couldn't do long distance. So that makes me bisexual right? Baba is also bisexual... But I guess it's easier asking you about it." Virgil wasn't focused completely on the FaceTime call, he was in fact working on a poster for his Spanish class, but Roman couldn't look away from Virgil. He loved watching people during big moments in their lives – plus his math homework was boring him.

"Do you feel the same about dating a boy? Not exactly the same, bisexual people can have preferences, but do you have romantic feelings for both?" Virgil nodded absentmindedly, whispering some Spanish under his breath before pausing to let a blush reach his cheeks. Roman smiled wide and taunted – he was going to get a good story.

"Well, I feel the same over one boy right now."

"Who?" Roman pretty much threw the math homework off his desk, excited to hear the drama, he loved watching people in love. And by the look on Virgil's face – he was smitten over whoever this boy was. Virgil didn't answer though, just continued to mumble Spanish from the homework he was staring at. "Can I have any hints? What's your type?"

Eventually Virgil spoke, quiet and nervous though. Roman was a naïve thirteen-year-old so he didn't think about why Virgil was so quiet – he just wanted to create a romance story with his best friend. He didn't think he'd be one of the main characters in the story. "He's an idiot, but a cute idiot. His whole... self is so infectious, and I just want to be around him all the time."

Almost four years later and Roman could still visualise Virgil's happiness as if it were yesterday. It was still hard to believe Virgil was talking about him the whole time. He looked so excited babbling about his crush as his black eyes twinkled and his voice lightened so delicately. Remembering that situation brought Roman back into the current world.

He was sat in his favourite elective, with a rock stuck in his throat, just wanting to find Virgil and see him again – even though he saw him that morning. He just wanted to scream and laugh all while imagining Virgil doing the same. Roman's emotions had hit him like a truck, and he was left with the splatters of realisation. All he could think of doing in that moment was grabbing the scrap of paper still on his desk and writing a response to Logan's confession.

'I think I like Virgil'.
