Summary: It's time for Prom! It's everything the four of them have dreamed of, but it doesn't go to plan.
"Ay bendito, we need another picture of you too, I can't believe our Logie's attending Prom!" Mama was taking a thousand pictures of the biggest night of her life. Logan still couldn't believe he was dressed up for Prom, Patton next to him smiling wide, dressed in an amazing handmade suit. Mama oversaw pictures while Emile adjusted the suits. But Logan couldn't drag his eyes away from Patton.
"I'll keep him safe, Mrs Croft." Patton giggled, his hand fit in Logan's grasp perfectly, he leant his body slightly towards Logan's chest for the picture. It's like they were a couple already. "We'll have fun tonight, won't we Lo?"
Logan nodded excitedly, his heart fluttering at the thought of this night. Before meeting Patton and his friends, Prom seemed unattainable. He knew the music would be too loud and there'd be too many people – that didn't mean he didn't dream of Prom like every teenager. In his dreams before Patton, he'd imagine being a normal teen, asking a girl to Prom and dancing the night away. Now he was a normal teen. And he was taking someone much better than just some girl.
Virgil and Roman were in a separate room, getting distracted by each other's lips. "So, do I have your consent to drag you onto the dancefloor if any High School Musical song starts?" Roman had his captivating smirk as the couple sat together on the sofa, Virgil was watching him with a smile too.
"As long as you can hair flip with me if Panic at the Disco comes up." Virgil couldn't look away from Roman tonight. There was one thing on his mind. The pair had been dating for a few months and there were three words at the tip of Virgil's lips whenever Roman did anything. He wanted to say 'I love you' so bad, but he didn't know if it would be too early and scare Roman away. He was anxious like that. So, Virgil continued to watch Roman, the words at the edge of his lips, wanting the release but waiting for now.
"Time for Prom!" Virgil's Baba, Uncle Remy, burst into the room that Virgil and Roman were hidden in. He was dressed in a black suit with his usual sunglasses even though it was dark outside. Logan and Patton walked in at the shout just in time to watch Remy lining up shot glasses with a water gun filled with espresso beside him. The teens were used to Remy's obsession with coffee. "Shots before your big night guys? I also have decaf!"

Logan had an ability to reduce sensory information, only when he really wanted to stay in the environment for longer. This was one of those times. Sure, the music was blaring, and he needed his headphones on to get through some songs – but Logan's main focus was Patton.
The thatched design on Patton's blazer was a tactile feeling Logan enjoyed. He held it, watching Patton's eyes as the cheesy pop song transitioned into a slow waltz. The pair stopped as the tempo slowed, Patton looked up at him with a reflection in his eyes from the disco ball. "Do you want to continue dancing Lo?" His voice was nervous and careful, and a feeling of excitement came over his body. Logan nodded excitedly and Patton smiled wide. "OK... Tell me if this is too much." Patton looped his arms around Logan's shoulders, they were staring into each other's eyes, this was Logan's moment to admit everything.
Meanwhile, Virgil and Roman were dancing too. Virgil was looking up at Roman, trying to meet his eyes, trying to have a moment too. But Roman was taking in the presence of being at Prom. "Oh my God, oh my God!" Roman's voice was pitched-up as he looked over Virgil's shoulder. Virgil gripped a little tighter on Roman's waist – he didn't want him to run away – but Roman didn't seem to realise. "Look, Patton and Logan are dancing together, they're gonna be a couple! Should we take a photo so we can make fun of them on their wedding day?"
"Roman?" Roman looked over and tilted his head in confusion like a golden retriever. Cute, but Virgil was anxious right now so that look didn't calm him. "Can we just dance?"
"Of course Brad Pitt-iful." Roman soothed, bringing Virgil closer, Virgil could stare into his eyes forever. He really liked doing that. But there was still a problem – now that Roman wasn't freaking out about Prom and Logan and Patton becoming romantic – he was silent. Silent apart from soft kisses and the occasional 'are you OK?'.
Why wasn't this the most romantic dance Virgil had ever experienced? Roman was literally the romantic one in the relationship! This would be the best time for Roman to sneak in an 'I love you' or go on a tangent about how they were going to get married one day and this was the moment they'd tell the grandkids. Did Roman not like him like that? Were all those previous tangents about how they were soulmates a lie?
Logan risked moving his hand away from the thatch of Patton's blazer, delicately stroking his jawline. He couldn't focus on anything else – he really wanted to kiss Patton. And Patton seemed receptive, he was smiling softly and his eyelids fluttered, his eye contact moving down to Logan's lips and up again. They were getting closer – they were going to kiss – oh my God they were going to kiss!
"VIRGIL! WAIT!" Roman's unexpected scream erupted over the dancefloor, causing everyone to pause and look over as a flash of purple ran out of the school hall and towards the sport field. The shout broke Logan's ability to block all the sensations of Prom. People were chatting amongst each other, the music was loud, people were way too close to Logan for his comfort. This environment was too much – and headphones wouldn't help.
He let go of Patton instinctively, looking like a deer in headlights at this situation. "I'll get your headphones Lo, it's OK." Patton whispered softly, running away to get Logan's headphones from his bag. But he couldn't stay here – it was sensory overload here. So, Logan also left, the same direction Virgil went. Luckily it was quiet there. Patton and Roman were the only ones on the dancefloor, looking at each other confused and panicked.
Logan ran towards the sports field; he knew where would be quiet and dark for him to calm his rushing thoughts. He found the nearest set of bleachers, poking his head under it to see if anyone was there. No-one was having sex surprisingly but there was someone there Logan knew he should support.
Virgil was sat in a ball, trying to calm his breaths. His hair was ruffled, and he had taken off his waistcoat and tie, abandoning them near the entrance of the bleachers. He looked up when he heard someone and gave Logan a small smile. "Hey... Don't worry."
Logan had wide eyes and a panicked expression, but Virgil was thankful his friend was there for him – and that he took care of himself too. "I will be a good friend and ask you what's up, but later, I've just got to calm myself. Give me five minutes." And with that Logan disappeared into the darkness, finding another set of bleachers, and staying there until he wasn't overwhelmed.
Maybe Prom was too much after all.
