Summary: Logan and Roman give each other side eyes to not reveal each other's crushes - but turns out they have their crushes reveal separate platonic dates.

Roman and Logan texted each other in the library, even though they were next to each other, as their crushes tended to have a habit of appearing round the corner at any second. Logan couldn't help but laugh under his breath as he watched Roman's worried eyes scan the library looking for Virgil. It was advantageous to be semi-abnormal around all friends it seemed.

Soon Patton and Virgil came into the library from opposite sides, Patton bounding in and Virgil on his phone. Patton sat next to Logan and Virgil sat next to Roman. Every lunch was the same with Logan's group of friends. Including assumably Roman's favourite routine of lunch-time – Virgil always bought an extra cookie as he was always first in the lunch-line due to his anxiety – and every time he got a cookie for Roman. It was such a small action but from the look in Roman's eyes the daily routine meant a lot to him. Roman's eyes twinkled with adoration as he watched Virgil pass the cookie from his tray onto Roman's lap.

"Nah, Mx Joan said I can do my performance the week after – Chinese New Year things." Virgil and Roman were chatting about their other elective class, Drama, where Roman was watching him like he was the centre of the universe. Virgil was treating this day like any other day. "Baba is taking Papa, Gavin and I to the city to celebrate Chinese New Year with my Ayis, so I'll out of school for about a week."

"You're leaving us? I feel betrayed!" Roman came to life enough to laugh and joke, punching Virgil's arm and swallowing his sudden nerves. "It does sound fun though, what kind of stuff do you do on Chinese New Year?"

Virgil shrugged and nibbled on his cookie, giving it the same look Roman was giving his crush. "We just have a dinner and light some candles, I'm too old to get the pocket money so it's not that big of a deal. My Ayis are begging for me to bring some school-friends though so if any of you want to skip school you can be my guest."

Logan did consider it may be fun to spend a week discovering a new culture, but he could see the look in Roman's eyes as he was considering it. His eyes widened and then he looked down, chewing on his sandwich before slowly nodding. "I'm sure I can get an extension from Mx Joan..." No words were spoken but an intimate moment was shared, as Virgil's eyes met Roman's. After a few seconds Roman had to look away in worry and he fiddled with his nectarine, taking a deep breath at what he achieved.

It was time enough for Logan to be reminded of his crush s Patton accidentally leant his chin on Logan's arm, he quickly moved away and apologised but that didn't stop Logan getting trapped watching him speak. "I've got a favour to ask you guys!" Patton cheered, making Logan's heart ship a beat as he wrapped his arms around his leg to stabilise himself. Roman sneaked in a joking glance about how it was so easy for Logan to freak out about his crush on Patton. "My Mom's day-care is learning about colours this month so at the beginning of February they're having an art exhibition! We'll need volunteers for drinks and general caretaking so I was wondering if you guys wouldn't mind helping out?"

Beginning of February was Chinese New Year, so Virgil and Roman crossed themselves out from the help. This left Logan – and of course he had to help – it would seem rude to refuse. Maybe that was his crush talking.

"Sure, I can't guarantee I'll be good with the kids though."

"You'll be amazing!" Patton chirped happily and gave Logan a smile. Logan saw the smile out the corner of his eye and smiled too. Roman and Virgil noticed the small blush on Logan's cheek but didn't say anything – Roman just made sure his cheeks didn't have the same pigment when Virgil's brown eyes reached him.

Patton got to the rented hall with his parents on the first weekend of February, hours before the event was meant to start. He was so excited! He loved when his Mom's day-care did events like this, he loved watching the little toddlers wondering around with their parents and being so proud of the work they did.

"The preschool art goes against the back wall sweetie; we need to keep it for kindergarten reports." Dot walked beside her son and kissed his forehead. "How are all the reports going kiddo?"

"Boring, but it's getting done." It had been Larry's job to do the reports every year as Dot got overwhelmed with her kiddos moving to big school, but this year Patton offered to help too. Only problem – he hated it. His job was to sit with kids and force them to take silent tests and he had to watch them get overwhelmed and confused and stressed. "I just want to talk about the kid! Like how many friends they're making, how excited they are to try new things, not just writing and math."

Dot smirked as she carried some kid-sized tables to the centre of the room in case kids wanted to make more artwork. "Well, that's teaching honey. It's more reports and writing than playing and getting to know the kids. You'll learn to love it when you have your own classroom though!"

Maybe Patton won't love it. Teaching was a possibility for Patton, but not definite. He really should learn if there were any jobs that involved just knowing kids and playing with them. That would be his dream job.

"When's your friend coming Pat?" Larry walked into the room and ruffled his son's hair, carrying yet another box of artwork. There were dozens of pieces, and the children were proud of each one. "Is it Roman or Virgil?"

"It's Logan! Remember I told you about him?" Larry and Dot didn't answer at first and gave each other a mischievous look, raising eyebrows at each other and smiling wide. They gave their son a small side-eye before speaking. Patton knew what was coming.

"Have you asked him to be your boyfriend yet?" Larry started, watching his son go into a bright pink blush. "We'll try to give you as much alone time as possible."

Dot giggled. "I don't think the kids will."

While Patton continued setting up all the children's artwork in silence the adults around him started welcoming the volunteers they brought. Most of the time it was family, husband and wife reuniting to help together or people bringing their parents or siblings.

It was laughs and hugs until Patton spotted an anxious teen in the corner, fidget cube in hand looking around at all the pictures. He looked peaceful, in his own world and ignoring everyone. In Patton's dream world he'd love to interrupt that distracted state with a kiss on the cheek. A bounding 'hi!' was enough for now though.

And Patton's butterflies grew when he noticed Logan's shoulders relax at his presence, and a smile tug on his lips.
