Summary: Roman and Virgil reveal their relationship to their other two best friends - leading to Logan having a million thoughts of his own about whether he really wants to keep his crush on Patton a secret.

Closest chapter to Christmas wooo! Also - I've finished pre-writing this book so it really is a Christmas break now XD. I can put more effort into publishing these now!

With Janus being a senior, it wasn't that often he spent time with his younger friends. He had big ambitions – sure, law school was a while away, but it was a dream. The group of juniors weren't that bothered though as they knew Janus had his chaotic boyfriend and he was the energy of all of them combined.

This morning however Janus sat with Patton and Logan – he was waiting for his boyfriend of course. Remus didn't want to car-ride with Janus today as he wanted to drive Roman to school and catch up from the week Roman was away. Logan liked the limited time he spent with Janus, they could chat about philosophy and psychology in way too much depth than neurotypical people knew. "Oh, Freud definitely had no idea his daughter was gay. He was pretty much shooting himself in the foot the entire time..."

"That's his car!" Patton cheered, just to watch Janus turn from his deep intellectual conversation with blushing cheeks to see the luminous green beetle car swerving into the parking lot (it was a miracle Remus even got his driving license). Janus ran towards the car straight away, accepting when Remus practically pounced on him. It was Monday and the couple had seen each other last Friday but the pair were still in their honeymoon phase years after their relationship started.

Remus seemed to stay longer in Janus' arms, whispering in his ear about something. Roman left the car and laughed about how his brother became a koala when he saw his boyfriend. But the car door stayed open, and Virgil emerged. Why was Virgil driven to school by the King's rather than his parents?

"Sorry we're late. We had to detour to get Starbucks, and Dunkin' Donuts, and some Lego because it was right next door, and then we just had to get Roman's new bo..." Remus was babbling as he approached Logan and Patton, although his waffles stopped when he had a donut stuffed down his throat by Janus.

"He can say it Jan, don't worry." Virgil laughed, although he did enjoy the look of Remus with his face stuffed like a hamster. He turned to Patton and Logan sitting on the steps to the front of the high school, crossing his harms over his chest as Roman brought his arm around his shoulders. "Roman and I are officially dating!"

Virgil couldn't stop smiling wide as Roman's cheeks went pink. "OH MY GOD NO WAY!" Patton screamed and hugged both members of the happy couple. "I guess New Year went well then?"

"More than well." Roman responded, brushing a hand through Virgil's curls, looking like he was in heaven with his love under his arm. Logan was quiet – no reaction, although no-one expected one as they knew Logan liked to congratulate in private. He was silent for a different reason though.

How did Roman get the courage? Whenever Logan thought of talking around his sexuality around Patton, he felt nauseous, like he needed to lie in the middle of a field and bury his head in the ground like an ostrich. Yet Roman could realise his crush existed and ask Virgil to start dating a few weeks later? Maybe it was easier because he already knew he was gay, but it still got Logan thinking.

Every hand held, every kiss on the cheek, every soft whisper – Janus and Remus joked about how Logan and Patton were third wheeling. However, Logan felt present in the relationship, but in a different way. He took the role of Roman or Virgil, let himself imagine Patton as the role of the other, and imagined every action though his eyes. Logan would adore a hand through his hair, Patton had such soft cheeks to brush his thumb across, maybe Logan should work on his arm strength so that he can lift Patton up when he finally kisses him.

Logan could see what a homosexual relationship in high school was like now. Sure, he had his moms to imagine what adulthood with his soulmate was like, but in front of him every day were two teens in a homosexual relationship. It made his feelings for Patton stronger and wilder – he really wanted Patton now. He will ask Patton on a date... Eventually.

*******

That eventually quickly became a good few months, until it was reaching the end of junior year. Roman and Virgil were still strong, and Patton had taken voluntary work as a play therapist's apprentice, helping Theo's play therapist on other jobs she had in the area. He loved it. Every part of the job was interesting and fun... Much more fun than the assignment he had to do for Education Placement.

"What topic have you chosen Patton?" Logan and Patton were in study hall together, staring at separate screens. Later that day Patton needed to tell Mrs Torres-Rosario the topic he was going to teach the first-grade class. For an hour in one of his last afternoons Patton and Logan were in the first-grade classrooms, he was tasked to create an hour-long lesson on a topic of his choice. Logan was also doing the same assignment – he had already chosen and submitted his topic though. "How about cat breeds? You know a lot about cats from Theo."

"But they have to have done a worksheet or something Lo – that's the worst bit." Patton's head lay on the table, admiring how Logan could type so quickly with one hand and stay so focused while everyone was chatting. He was already planning his hour lesson. He was going to teach the first graders how to be poets, letting them write their own poem about how they found first grade since it was near the end of the year. He was also going to teach them about similes – he really was an amazing teacher even without college. "How can you do the lesson planning so easily Lo?" Patton sighed and pouted. Logan looked over and took a deep breath before looking back at his screen.

"I've read about it, asked the other teachers at Spanish club, gone through many drafts for hypothetical classes..." That was another change that happened in the last few months. The teachers at the local elementary school had noticed how good Logan was with the Hispanic kids, and he had revealed his Mama was a Spanish-speaker. Logan was by no means fluent, but he was happy to travel to the elementary school after high school classes ended to help run Spanish club. A club where all elementary children could learn a little extra Spanish to help their peers, and Spanish-speaking children could get extra playtime and English help. He was thriving and happy to help on most days, and on days where his brain couldn't manage the extra socialisation the elementary teachers weren't annoyed as long as he texted them about it ahead of time.

Logan had two favourite students in Spanish club though – two first-graders. "Thomas might be our assistant on Friday, he learnt 'puedo ayudar' – 'I can help' – yesterday so now he won't stop helping Nico and his friends." Thomas was the child that was being bullied who Logan sympathised with, and Nico was the chattiest kid in Logan's favourite group. Thomas and Nico found that they both had the same favourite teacher – Mr Croft – and had been inseparable ever since. It was certain that Thomas Sanders and Nico Flores were going to be best friends forever.

"Maybe..." Patton had to stop staring at the adorable Logan to look at the form he needed to fill in. "I did some cupcake decorating with the day-care kiddos a few weeks ago, maybe we can do some baking... Even though we don't have an oven."

"But you do have drawing utensils and baking materials – and each component of baking has a reason for being there. Sounds like a science lesson to me." Logan turned his head and smirked directly at Patton, making his heart beat a million times a minute. "Plus, I know the teachers' lounge has a mini oven. So, the kids can all make cupcakes together." Patton could always kiss Logan if he had consent, but he could kiss him even more now. He had a lesson!

And Logan could tell how overjoyed Patton was. He started frantically typing through the form, Logan was captivated by his smile and the rhythm of Patton's typing. Roman and Virgil's new blossoming relationship meant that Logan was getting even more lovestruck, seeing every action Virgil and Roman did together and wanting desperately to try it with Patton. He couldn't believe there was ever a time Logan didn't realise he had same-sex attraction.

"Hey Patton?" Logan started, stuck in a trance as he was wondering what kind of first date he'd have with Patton. "Do you want to bake something together? To try out what kind of stuff you'll teach them."
