Summary: It's Prom time, and Virgil's Papa Emile has offered to make outfits for the 4 boys. Logan did not account his feelings in this dress-up day though.
I looked up 'dark blue galaxy suit' and this came up so... The dogs are out for that guy.
Virgil's Papa, who his friends called Uncle Emile, was a very eccentric man. He worked full-time as a therapist, specialising in helping LGBTQ+ people – but he had a secret hobby. Well, not really secret to anyone who knew him. He'd taken tailoring and fashion classes throughout high school and college, so also loved making outfits for his family and his family's friends. He had a side-project of making Prom outfits for underprivileged youth... So, when Virgil's Prom came around, he was super excited.
"Oh, I've wanted this moment since I was in Prom myself! I can't believe my Virgil's big enough for Prom!" Logan could hear from the other side of the bathroom door. Virgil's friends were all at Virgil's house, trying on carefully crafted Prom outfits that Uncle Emile made for them. Virgil went first, he just had a black suit with a purple and black patchwork waistcoat, there were no complaints to Logan was next as he could need a lot of adjustments – Uncle Emile had pretty much measured Roman and Patton every month since he met them while Logan's measurements were mostly guessed by sight and photos.
Logan brushed his fingers against the suit as he looked in the bathroom mirror. It was certainly intricate, soft black velvet was used on the inside of the blazer and the outside had a sewn-on galaxy design, complete with silver sequins to represent stars. The tie was decorated in stars. There was also a dark blue waistcoat hiding a black buttoned shirt, the waistcoat was a little tight but could be fixed. Logan stared at himself in the mirror, not quite believing he got such a delicately designed suit for free. He was just expecting to rent a cheap suit from the tailors uptown.
"Is everything alright in there Lo?" Patton chirped through the closed bathroom door. Logan still couldn't believe that he was alright going to Prom, and that he was going to Prom with someone as cute as Patton.
"Yep, this suit is really nicely designed."
"Then let us see it!" Roman shouted through the door. Uncle Emile was still fussing over his son when Logan opened the door, meeting eyes with Roman and Patton who were slowly inhaling all their energy into an excited scream. Virgil looked over and gave a thumbs-up like a normal person.
Inside though, Patton was freaking out even more than Roman. Uncle Emile had brushed Logan's black hair from his face to apparently look more formal, and then he put him in this amazing suit! Patton couldn't stop internally marvelling at how attractive Logan looked, wondering if Uncle Emile could make their wedding suits, or if Logan could be comfortable wearing a suit and tie every day.
Virgil whispered in his Papa's ear when the older man looked confused at Patton's still and wide-eyed expression, the man then giggled like a schoolchild and grabbed the next outfit – in a baby blue shopping bag. "Patton! You're next!" Patton heard his name and turned, still silent for a second before catching up with what was happening around him and running to get his outfit. Uncle Emile went up to Logan and asked about modifications, noting them down in the notebook.
The hum of conversation quieted when Patton finally left the bathroom in his suit. Logan felt like he could have a heart attack, he could feel his heart beating and couldn't hear anything else. All his eyes could focus on was Patton. His suit was simple but looked beautiful on him. His blazer was a thatched light blue, with a white buttoned shirt and baby pink buttons. His trousers were also light blue, but the waist was full of glitter. Logan's first thought was whether he could touch it.
"What do you think Logan?" Logan flinched when he heard his name come from Uncle Emile. The man was smiling widely and Virgil and Roman were trying to hold back their laughter. Was he really that obvious? "Patton suits this design, doesn't he?"
"Yeah, yeah." Logan whispered and looked away to calm his blushing cheeks. All he could imagine was walking down the aisle on his wedding to that smiling face.
It was finally Roman's turn to try on his Prom outfit – and he was excited. He grabbed the red and yellow bag straight away and sprinted into the bathroom. Uncle Emile fiddled with Patton's collar, wondering if he should add a daisy design to the blazer collar which of course Patton agreed to. "So, you two are in the teaching class together, right?" Uncle Emile asked, helping Patton take his blazer off so he could sew more patterns. "When Virgie told me about it, I tried to get him to join the class too! He's such a good brother to Gavin."
"There's a difference between Gavin alone and thirty Gavins Papa."
"You never know until you try! You know Baba and I met in a college elective, don't you?" Uncle Emile chirped, a blush coming to his cheeks at the mention of his husband. Virgil looked back to his phone as he had heard of this story dozens of times before. Patton had heard the story a few times too but seemed happy to hear it again – and for Logan this story was new.
Uncle Emile had hearts for eyes as he placed Patton's blazer back on the mannequin and told the teenagers about his love story. "It was junior year of college, Remy was a business major, and I was a psychology major. We needed to take a history credit for our majors to graduate and we just so happened to both take the 'LGBTQ+ and Minority Race' class! It also helped that he worked at the Starbucks I used to study at – but sparks flew as soon as I saw him!" Uncle Emile gave Patton the blazer again to check how his sewing looked.
"Well, Virgil already met his soulmate in high school – with no electives needed." Patton jokingly grabbed Virgil in a hug, dragging him towards the bathroom door. Roman would be out anytime soon – and Virgil wasn't sure if his heart could take it. He knew the outfit Roman was going to be in, and he was going to look so confident and happy, and Virgil was allowed to kiss him...
The scream indicated that Roman was changed before the door was opened. "YOU GOT THE CAPE UNCLE EMILE! AWW, IT LOOKS SO COOL!" Roman flew out of the bathroom in his outfit. It wasn't a normal suit like Logan's and Patton's – he was too abnormal for that. The front of the suit was a jumpsuit, in a design that looked like a shirt and trousers. In the back however was a long skirt with a trail, that Roman called a 'cape'. Two bracelets were attached to the skirt so that Roman could make his cape flow on the dancefloor. And it was absolutely covered in red and rainbow glitter everywhere. "This is amazing!"
Roman turned and chuckled at Virgil's expression. He was still holding his phone and was previously watching TikTok, but he seemed distracted now. His eyes were blown wide as his eyesight traced Roman's figure, his mouth was slightly agape, and he was breathing slowly. He was absolutely shellshocked. "Do you like my outfit, my love?" Roman mumbled, dipping his head and giving Virgil's agape mouth a kiss.
"I... uh..." The words 'I fucking love you' were trapped on Virgil's tongue but he resisted the urge. "I like it, yeah, it suits you." Roman's face was still millimetres away from Virgil's as his eyes looked up. Virgil was the one to bring in the second kiss, even though his Papa was freaking out in the background about how his son was going to marry his high school sweetheart.
Logan watched Patton as the kiss happened, who was also freaking out over the kiss. He was going to kiss Patton like that at some point – he knew it – it was just the build-up that was torturous.
