We were to fight against two students I did not recognise. When the fight started, I nodded to Gunther as he nodded back and used his blood magic. I summoned three goblins around him and they all rushed ahead. The two students had spread apart and started using magic.
Gunther picked one and all my goblins followed, taking the spells for him. He quickly dispatched of his target and moved to the next one. We easily won as the rest of the students were quite ecstatic at our performance.
After the fight, Gunther asked for me to meet up with him alone, so I obliged.
"Hey uhm. Thanks for the strategy."
"I told you it'd go nicely, didn't I."
"Yeah, well as I'm saying, thanks!"
"Now we can both fight together instead of focusing on one. Let's get this tournament out the way."
He nodded, looking a bit confused, before we returned together together with the others.
No other fight were interesting. The majority were one sided and the few that actually had some form of proper fighting used basic tactics and simple spells. I was a bit disappointed by the overall performance but also by my expectations as they are still children who have little to no experience in real fights yet.
Eventually, the finals of the tournament arrived. It was Gunther and I versus two boys who had easily steamrolled through the tournament beforehand.
"Hey Lilia," Gunther suddenly said before we started. "I know these two, they probably have some tricks up their sleeve."
"Oh, alright. Thanks for letting me know."
The fight then started. One of them immediately starting chanting. Knowing something would be up, I closed my eyes to look at the magic directly. Dark purple, could it be demonic magic?
I rushed directly ahead, stepping in front of Gunther to absorb the spell. I knew I was most likely immune but I didn't know how it would affect him. The spell was used and I could feel it try to and subsequently fail to attack me.
Looking back, hoping I had successfully blocked the spell, concern washed over me as Gunther seemed out of breath. His blood magic had dispelled and he struggled to simply keep breathing.
I had completely failed what I wanted to do - the spell hit him full on. In my panic, I didn't know what to do. It took me a moment to figure out that it could maybe be healed. I called for Alice to heal him, so she appeared atop my head and did so.
He finally was free from the spell but it wasn't all there was to it. The shortness of breath left him physically weaker as I heard steps coming towards us. I faced the other boy, rushing to us with his right fist surrounded by a thick rock layer. Determined to not let anything happen to my teammate, I grabbed it.
The opponent looked at me in surprise. Hoping to keep his advantage, he dispelled the rock and instead recreated it on his other fist, flinging it at me. I grabbed it again and crushed the magic rock to get a hold of his fist. His surprise turned to fear as I threw him to the side and summoned a goblin next to him.
"Maybe this was too much?" Alice asked.
"I don't know, but it was enough," I replied as the goblin started kicking him on the ground, never hitting any vital spots.
"Gunther," I asked. "Are you okay enough to continue?"
"I-I still feel light-headed I'm sorry."
"It's fine, I'll finish the job."
I walked towards the other caster. In his fear, he started another demonic spell, launching it before I arrived. It took the form of a dark orb with an irregular flight pattern. I slapped it away as it arrived near me, making sure it wouldn't hit my partner behind me in the process.
