Once I arrived, the guards looked both relieved and annoyed.
"You shouldn't stay so late out, Lilia!" one of them said when I was about to enter.
"Huh?" I merely replied in surprise.
"The capital might be relatively safe, there's still dangers out there. You should come home earlier."
"Ah, don't worry about that. It's not like I was alone either."
He looked confused but didn't dare ask. He instead repeated the same thing and let me through. I went directly to have dinner then got back to my room. Sayuri saw me enter and looked...
...I couldn't quite tell what she was feeling from her face, but I could tell it wasn't something good. I wasn't sure whether to ask or not, but seeing it made her very uncomfortable, I decided to.
"Hey, Sayuri?"
"Ah, yes?
"Is everything okay?"
"Uh, yes yes! Everything's fine!"
Her tone felt rushed, very obviously hiding the truth. Considering it meant it was something she couldn't readily tell me, I tried to figure out what it was.
"...I can tell it's not the case. Is someone bullying you?"
"No, nothing like that. It's just..."
She stayed silent for a bit, twiddling her thumbs. I sat down on her bed and waited for her to decide to say what she wanted to say.
"You see... I... I miss you."
"You miss me? We see each other every day though."
"Yeah but we...we don't really study or train together anymore. Even patrolling, I'm always alone..."
"Aah... Well, that's true. I'm sorry, I've been incredibly busy lately with urgent tasks. I'll try to patrol with you more often okay?"
Although she seemed happy about it, it barely lasted if at all.
"You said that last time but you didn't..."
"I guess I just got more tasks piled up onto me at the time. I just got more busy, you know..."
"How come you're always so busy though?" she suddenly asked, raising her voice a little in anger.
"Well... Truth be told, I wish I wasn't. As much as I like being busy, this has all been a little too hectic. I don't even have time to talk and catch up with my own familiars."
"Is it really that bad?"
"It has been, yes. Hopefully I'll have more time now, though I'll still be very busy on the weekends."
"Then you...really will come patrol with me?"
"Sure thing."
She finally gleamed up. I wouldn't have been surprised if she actually started jumping up, but thankfully she didn't.
"You promised yes?"
"Sure, I promise. Now I'll go take my bath."
She didn't reply so I figured it meant she was fine with it. I directly went in and relaxed a little.
"I really should ask Jor how he's been doing..." I muttered to myself
"You called, Lilia-sama?" he immediately replied, making me jump up in the bath.
"Jesus, you scared me."
"Jesus..?" he repeated in confusion.
"Uh, don't worry about it. Some thing from my old world. Anyways, yes I did. I'd like to talk."
