Any holiday wasn't celebrated much within the zones as using up needed material's on a single day was a waste. As well as supplies being rare enough already that hording extra as a treat would only leave more starving instead.
Chocolate was a treat once a year if the delivery trucks had survived the trip from the factories to the zones. Not many ever did. Leaving all zones forced to grow their own food and gather their own water, to be able to survive within the zone without any outside help.
Bullets and guns were made in the military only sections of the zone. Blades sharpen inside there too even if many within the zone had their own weapons hidden out of sight for when they were needed.
Christmas trees, fake or real would take up space for those already sharing their home with however many strangers or families were shoved under one roof. Those lucky enough to be a single friend in an apartment knew to cherish their home and thank their luck.
Presents were difficult to get when clothes were just stocked up from shops raided by the city before it was turned into a zone or by the soldiers grabbing them from shops in passing on patrols.
Toys, teddies and other items one would overlook it's importance was now seen a spoil for oneself or their children. Leaving them expensive or left stained and lost somewhere on the ground before being stolen and kept.
Christmas, as many holidays were no longer celebrated.
Christmas spirt died down as quickly as the food rations were made half most weeks.
A Christmas miracle was having full rations for three weeks in a row at once.
For joy, it came from merely waking up after going to bed cold and hungry.
More days, fates and months grow lost once living in a zone.
Week days were used, Monday to Sunday, to help a shift pattern alive and to stop days from melting into one.
But most don't even realized a day's different unless something truly different happened before them. Even on a day off, everyone else would still be stuck living the same life.
People only noticed the seasons changed by the weather itself. Winter would be chilly, leaving most stuck in terrible conditions to freeze to death on the worse winters. Summer would be too hot, leaving people with sweat in their eyes and die from dehydration. Spring and Autumn came with their own changes in the weather and giving people the blues.
Keith only knew Christmas day was that day by Shiro and recently added to their family, Adam.
Both worked on the military grounds, the military still counted and calculated the dates and years. Keeping track and living with the passing time known.
