Y/N's POV:

Anakin and I had been silent since we got on the ship, only briefly communicating when he predictably announced he was driving, reminding me that he was the "best pilot in the galaxy."

Anakin submitted Naboo's coordinates into the navicomputer system and we entered hyperspace. He put on cruise control, knowing it would be a long ride and that the ship would alert us of any possible ships or other objects in our way. He leaned back his chair, putting his feet up on the dash, and resting his hands behind his head for support.

He caught me looking at him. "What?" He asked in an irritated tone.

"Nothing." I said, although there had been a question on my mind that I was curious about since we got on the ship.

"Okay." Anakin huffed. He turned his chair slightly away from me and began to shut his eyes, indicating he was about to take a nap.

For some reason I couldn't let it go. "It's just—"

"Here we go." Anakin groaned, rolling his chair back around to face me.

I ignored his sassy remark. "You and Padme seemed to know each other pretty well." I don't know why I wanted to dive into the details of their relationship so badly. And I don't know why when I said it I sounded so... jealous? I couldn't be...

"Why do you want to know? Are you jealous or something?" He asked smugly, using his classic Anakin smirk that drove me absolutely crazy. He was so cocky.

"I was just making an observation." I defended myself, trying my best to form a neutral expression.

"You sounded jealous." Anakin observed, that big stupid smirk never leaving his face. I was determined to get it to go away.

"I wasn't." I said firmly before a smile crept over my face. This will surely get his expression to change. "It's just I was curious you see, because I could feel these strong emotions when you saw her, Anakin, and if I didn't know any better, I'd say you had a crush on the Senator."

That wiped the smug expression right off his face.

"Don't worry, Ani." I used the nickname she used when she first saw him again. "I get it, really. She's a very pretty girl."

I thought this comment would annoy him, but instead I saw some deeper emotion flicker on his face. He actually looked like he was sad and I felt pain envelope his Force signature. I knew I had messed up then, as whatever I had said had touched a nerve. I felt the immediate need to take it back. "Anakin, I—"

"It isn't like that." He finally said, his eyes looking down at the ground away from mine.

"Anakin, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked—" I tried to apologize.

"It's just, Padme met me when I was a little boy. Before I was a padawan. Before the Council found me." Anakin explained, finally looking me in the eyes. He looked so vulnerable. "She was kind to me at a time when I had so much fear." He smiled bitter-sweetly, as if recalling a memory.

I stood there, unable to speak. Just listening to every word. Anakin had never talked to me about his past.

"You know I was brought to the Council a little older than the rest, right?" He asked and I nodded. While he may have been older when he started his training, I also knew how fast he had caught up and then surpassed the other children his age. It further confirmed suspicions that he was the prophesied Chosen One.

"Obi-Wan was there when the found me on the Outer Rim— back then, he was just a padawan. Qui-Gon, his Master, was actually the one who sensed the Force in me. He insisted on bringing me back to the Temple for training." Anakin recalled.
