"Come on Nai, let's get you upstairs."
"Mmm... Where are we going?"
"We're home. You fell asleep in the car."
"Really? Oh fuck. I snored, didn't I?"
"Just like a little piggie," he chortled. "I think that ninth glass did it to you."
"Oh shut up Ka— Ugh. My head is spinning."
Kaku adjusted Nai so that her head lay on his chest. The scent of Paco Rabanne warmed her nose.
"Is that better?"
"Mhmm," she inhaled the warmth, pressing herself into it like flowers stretching towards the afternoon sun. She nuzzled her face into the scent burying her cheeks into the wool. "Where are you taking me?"
"To your room lightweight. You need to get some rest. I don't know who you were trying to outdrink but they whooped your ass."
"It's called having fun, maybe you should loosen up a little, and uhh—- I don't want to go to my room. I'm not even tired." She whined.
"Your eyes are closed Nai."
She frowns and blinks her eyes open slightly. "No they're not." She tilts her head back and squints up at him. "See," stretching out her neck in defiance. "I can see you," she giggled, simultaneously tapping his nose. He scrunched it and pulled his face away. "Yeah, I'm not listening to that. Time for bed!"
"Noooooooo. Put me down. I want to see Rindo—."
He sighed. "Just let me take you to your room. You're too drunk to talk about anything anyway. Just get some rest and maybe you can talk about it in the morning."
"Noooo! Put me dooooooooown." She let her body go limp and stretched her limbs out in every direction like a wiggly little starfish.
"If you put me in my room, I'm just going to come back out here anyway. Even if I have to crawl." She groans, weakly beating her flimsy fist against his chest. "Just leave me here." She kicked her feet trying to shake herself out of his arms.
"Rindou's not even home!" It came out louder than he'd planned. It aggravated him how annoyed his voice sounded coming back at him, but it was frustrating. Why did she always have to make it hard to be kind to her? He cracked his neck and let a long breathy sigh pass through his nose. "Why is this so important to you? He already told you he can't stand you Nai!"
"I don't care!" She frowned and lowered her voice, looking a little silly because her eyes closed again. "He's—— mad. I don't want him—- tuh be mad—— anymore." She drifts off to sleep again, snoring lightly into his sleeve. "Ugh." He huffed. Kaku rolled his eyes and tossed her arms over his shoulder. "Hmph, silly little thing. Should I have made you mad?" He leaves her with a kiss on her forehead and tucks her into bed.
A little more than an hour or maybe two later, Rindou came dragging himself up the stairs. Wisps of lilac floated about his eyes, sticking to the dampness spotting his neck and jawline. The rest of his disheveled hair was carelessly swept into an oblong messy bun. His shirt was half tucked, like he'd lazily started to pull it out of his belt and gave up halfway. It clung to him wrinkled and unbuttoned except for the two in the center. His chest was slick with salt and sweat like he'd been sitting out letting the humidity dot dewy kisses all over his body. Bits of sand still clung to the hairs on his legs where he'd rolled his pants below his knees. He threw his jacket over his shoulder and let his shoes dangle from his fingertips.
When he reached the top of the stairs he stopped. Nai had made good on her promise. She had crawled out of bed and fell asleep with her back against Rindou's door. He almost turned and went back to his car, but what little conscience he had wouldn't let him. He let out a heavy sigh and reluctantly walked over.
