"What the fuck is this?" Slouching low in the chair beside Derek, Koha's arms crossed tightly over his chest, a scowl set deep on his face. His foot tapped impatiently on the sterile hospital floor, matching the faint beeps of the machines. The harsh fluorescent lights cast shadows under his eyes, darkening his mood even more. Without even glancing at him, he muttered through clenched teeth, "I know I told your ass not to come here."

"Shut up and listen Koh."

Master Rui, sitting across from them in the hospital bed, his face drawn and serious, took a deep breath. His hands rested wearily in his lap, the hospital gown hanging loosely off his frail frame. He cleared his throat, the sound raspy and tired. "Both of you," Rui began, his voice shaky, "need to pay attention. Your girlfriends... they're in serious trouble. And the world they're in... it's far from safe."

"What the fuck do you mean 'world'? Where the hell are they? What's going on?"

Before Rui could answer, Midori, Rui's daughter, who had been sitting quietly at the edge of the room, leaned forward. "Please, Koha," she said gently, her voice breaking. "Listen to everything."

"For you to understand, I'll start from the beginning, but I'll keep it brief." His eyes flicked to Koha, who was on edge. "I know you've found my hidden books about the mirror, correct?"

Koha leaned forward slightly, holding up the book before handing it to him. "Yeah, I've been going through them, trying to make sense of it every day, but your notes are... complicated."

Rui gave a small apologetic smile. "I'm sorry. My work isn't easy to follow. How far did you get?"

"I figured out some of the symbols. Or at least think I did.  But it's still a mess."

"That's perfect," Rui said, his voice softening. "Let me explain. The mirror was built out of pure curiosity. The goal was to travel, to explore. The first successful trip I took was meant for Japan. But, to activate the mirror, there are steps involved. The most common method is during the Wisteria Moon—28 days after the last full moon. The mirror can take someone wherever they wish to go. But... to travel between worlds willingly, you need more than just the symbols and coordinates. You need a powerful desire. Without that longing, the mirror won't work."

Both boys sat, wide-eyed, clearly blown away by what they were hearing, ready to pounce with questions.

"Wait!"
