Chapter seven
Joséphine’s eyes snapped open like a rubber band. There was no way that he had just said that. There was no way that what she had wanted to tell him from the moment he first kissed her had just came from his mouth. They hadn’t known each other for 48 hours! Yes, she must be ? a schizophrenic. There was no way.
“José? Did you hear what I just said?” William whispered after a moment. His heart made an uncomfortable lurch as he felt her stiffen beside him. How stupid was he? Making such rash claims. Not that he didn’t mean it, quite on the contrary, William had never been so sure of anything in his life. But he shouldn’t have said it anyway, now she though the was insane and she would leave him forever. William sighed and rolled over so that he was facing her beautiful eyes. He opened his mouth to say something but stopped abruptly when he saw tears in them, like a waterfall threatening to explode.
“Did you mean that? After less then two days?” she croaked, wiping a lone tear that had escaped.
William frowned and reached his arm across the short distance to her face. He gently caught another tear with his index finger and wiped it away. “I shouldn’t have… I mean–“
“I need to know Will,” she insisted.
William bit his lip and looked away for a moment before composing himself. He looked deep into her eyes and moved closer until his face was an inch from hers, it pleased him when she showed no sign of nervousness at his closeness. “Yes I did mean it. I know it’s strange but it’s entirely true. I am deeply in love with you Joséphine and I want nothing more than to be with you forever.” He whispered.
Joséphine sniffled and began crying hysterically, causing William to frown. “Er.. I’m sorry,” He mumbled, looking away. “I mean, do you… want to leave? Because I complete–“ But his apology was cut off abruptly when he felt her warm lips on his own. His eyes widened in surprise and all response to her kiss was stopped in its tracks. He pulled away to look at her in awe. “But you were crying!” he sputtered.
José laughed and just kissed him again. He gave in this time, not really caring too much about her insane reactions. Although after a long moment he forced himself to move away, despite the other side of him who wanted nothing more than to continue. “explain.” He demanded gently, playing with her fingers.
She smiled and leaned her head against his shoulder. “Well, it just amazes me that you feel that way. I mean, of course I love you too but I would have never had the courage to just… tell like that.”
William gaped at her with his mouth open, when he spoke his voice was so hoarse that he barely heard it himself. “what did you say?”
Joséphine frowned. “I would have never had the courage to say it like you?”
He shook his head quickly. “No the other thing.” He explained.
She smiled gently at him, bringing her forehead to his own. “I said that I love you too William.” Her voice was so kind and so gentle that William couldn’t help but smile. He laughed lightly and closed the tiny space between them, bringing her lips to his own for the third time that night.
