Episode 3: Tale of Fire and Ice
"Looks like he's gone to another new world," I sighed as I stepped through the portal and the scenery changed around us.
"Interesting..." Soren began, scanning the area intently.
I closed the portal behind us as soon as I was sure everyone was through, not wanting anyone, or anything else to follow us.
Just then a loud growling noise sounded somewhere up ahead. Eep! Had something managed to slip through?! What was it? Or maybe this world was riddled with monsters too, and we had just walked right into the den of one?
"Why does it sound like a monster followed us?" I finally got the courage to ask aloud.
"Because one did," Axel replied, and for a brief moment, I was on edge, reaching for my sword. "My stomach."
I sighed with relief as soon as he uttered that second part. We got food from the grocery store earlier, so we should be- wait... there was nothing in my pockets now. Where did all the food go?
"Crud!" I exclaimed. "I knew we forgot something back in the supply room. But, don't worry, I have a plan. Anybody's sword here have the Fire Aspect enchantment?"
"Nope," Jesse sighed, and Petra shook her head as well.
I didn't see any monsters get lit on fire when I hit them, so I was left to assume I didn't have Fire Aspect either.
"Well..." I began. "I'm sure if we keep going, we'll find something?"
I tried to sound convincing, but I wasn't very convinced myself, and from the looks of it, that statement didn't convince anyone else, either. Nothing was said in protest, though, and eventually Jesse started leading the way onward again.
I felt really bad though, and started scanning the forest for anything that could potentially be edible as we headed along, falling in line between Lukas and Soren. To my left, where Lukas stood, I caught a flash of red behind some of the trees, too close to the ground to be a poppy. That meant... it had to be a mushroom! Were there any more around? I looked to the right and saw some brown ones trying to hide behind the trees as well. I rushed to the front of the group and held my hands out to stop Jesse and Petra.
"Woah!" Jesse gasped. "What-?"
"I think I've found our meal," I grinned. "Look, there's mushrooms all around us! I know it's not the best, but we could cut down some of the trees and craft some bowls and make mushroom stew for everyone!"
"Better than carrying on with an empty stomach," Axel decided, and the others nodded in agreement.
"Alright!" I grinned. "Let's get going, team! Four of us should get to cutting down trees, while the rest of us go gather mushrooms. We need an equal amount of brown ones and red ones, if I remember the crafting recipe correctly."
