"Bah, there's nothing useful in here," I heard someone mutter just ahead and to my right. "Just some crazy notes about treasure from other worlds and such."
"Haha, that blonde boy's a nutcase," Another voice spoke up. "Other worlds? How ridiculous is that?"
"I say we burn the thing," A third voice, whom I recognized to be Jhonny's suggested. "It's useless to us anyways."
At those words, we all picked up the pace, rushing over to where I heard the voices and rounding the corner just in time to see one of the pirates holding the journal in one hand, and a flint and steel in the other.
"Oh no, you don't!" I exclaimed, thinking quickly and sending a gust of icy wind at him, blowing the flint and steel out of his hand.
His eyes widened and he stared at me in shock as the flint and steel clattered to the ground.
"D-Did you do that?" One of the other pirates asked.
"Does this answer your question?" I smirked, sending another gust of frigid wind at the pirate that was holding Lukas's journal, aiming for his chest.
"Oof!" He cried, nearly doubling over, clutching his chest.
The pirates stopped grinning and sneering now.
"Sh-She can control the wind," One of them, whom I recognized to be Charlie, began shuddering. "Our ship is constantly at the mercy of the wind. I say we listen to her, Jhonny, do as she says, give the stupid journal back."
"Why do you care about it so much?" Jhonny pressed. "It's just some crazy ramblings about other worlds which clearly don't exist."
"To you it may be useless, but to us, it is a precious artifact," I explained, not really wanting to give away the fact that those events were real, and other worlds did indeed exist, especially not to a bunch of greedy, treasure hoarding pirates. "So, I suggest you give it up now, if you want to avoid trouble."
"Jhonny," Another one of the pirates spoke up. "We should listen to her."
"I'm not scared of her!" Jhonny exclaimed. "She's probably just bluffing, trying to scare us away. Those were just lucky coincidences or something. I say we stand and fight her. What's the worst she and her puny friends can do?"
"You actually wanna know the answer to that?" I pressed, keeping my confident smile. "Fine then, suit yourself. I'm just warning you; you might not like it once you find out."
Jhonny shook his head, smiling confidently as well, though we both knew there could only be one victor here, and I was already pretty sure it was going to be me. He and his friends started by charging at us. I blocked Jhonny's sword with my own, keeping my blade steady with one hand, and using the other to summon a gust of freezing wind to push him back.
"Call that a coincidence?" I jeered.
Jhonny glared at me and gave a battle cry, charging forward at me, his blade pointed at my chest as he ran. I stood my ground as he came running up, and at the last minute, lodged my own sword underneath his, disarming him swiftly. He was completely helpless now. I held my blade up to his throat, looking him dead in the eye.
"Give back the journal now, and I'll let you leave with your life," I threatened.
"I can tell from the look on your face that you're bluffing," He responded coolly. "You wouldn't do that."
"Wanna try me?!" I demanded, summoning yet another gust of wind and blowing him over so he fell on his back.
I put one foot on his chest so he couldn't get up, and continued to hold my blade to his throat.
