I led the way again, carrying on forward past the hole, but once again, stepped back and let Jesse take the lead after a few steps. I still didn't quite like the idea that all these people I just met were looking up to me, especially knowing how big of an impact every little choice I made had on the timeline in this world. I continued to look around, staying sharp as we trekked on through the woods. I heard running again to my right, and made out the silhouette of a person running through the trees beside us again. Was it the same person as before? Had they followed us all this way? Or was this someone new? I couldn't get a good look at them before they disappeared into the foliage again and out of my line of sight.
"Did anyone else see that?" I wondered aloud.
"No, but I certainly heard it," Olivia told me.
"Who's there?" Petra demanded, drawing her golden blade, and the whole group came to a stop. "Show yourself!"
"Petra, we come in peace, remember?" I reminded her. "We're only after Enderlord. That person is probably just scared. I mean, we kinda appeared out of nowhere and trespassed on their forest."
"Ahem!" I cleared my throat and spoke up loudly, addressing the figure as he encircled us. "We come in peace! We are only here seeking an enderman by the name of Enderlord! We mean you no harm, and we're sorry if we frightened you. If you let us go, we'll leave you alone, and we'll be gone as soon as we track down Enderlord, okay?"
The sound of running footsteps stopped. At first, I thought that meant we were in the clear, but I soon found out I couldn't have been more wrong. A large, circular shadow appeared in front of us, flying towards Jesse at blazing speeds.
"FIREBALL!" I gasped as I realized what we were dealing with. "Look out!"
I dashed forward and drew my icy blade, using it to parry the fireball and protect Jesse.
"Woah," Jesse gasped, stopping dead in his tracks, wide eyed.
"Where did that come from?" Soren wondered.
"It can't have been a ghast," I decided. "We're not in the nether."
"Well, if you build a portal large enough, ghasts can follow you out," Ivor noted. "Don't ask me how I figured that one out."
"But where would there be a portal large enough for that in this forest?" I pressed. "You'd think if it was that big, we would have seen it already."
"Not exactly," Ivor pointed out.
"That's definitely not a ghast," Olivia pointed out.
I looked up at the direction the fireball came from, noticing a person hovering there. The figure floated gently down to the ground, landing a few feet in front of us.
"What... is that?" Soren asked aloud.
The figure looked up at us, and that's when I saw they were a Steve skin, but their eyes were pure white, and they had a wicked grin plastered on their face.
"No way..." I breathed. "Herobrine. A vengeful spirit, or phantom of this world. As much as I hate to do this, it doesn't look like he's going to let us go without a fight."
"Let's do this, gang," Jesse agreed.
"Play off your strengths," I told everyone, though I doubted it needed to be said, it just made me feel better knowing I had said it.
Jesse, Petra, Soren, and I drew our swords, and Lukas loaded up his bow, ready to fire as Herobrine moved slowly towards us, preparing another fireball from the looks of things. I stared on intently, ready to parry it if that was the case. A low groaning noise filled the air around us.
