"She does have a point, guys," Jesse agreed with me. "That jungle appears to be our best bet."
"Alright," Lukas relented. "Let's go check it out."
Jesse and I led the way, and the rest of the group fell in line behind us. I didn't hear or see any signs of other marshmallow monsters in there as we drew closer, but this jungle was huge. One could be hiding or sleeping somewhere, waiting for us.
The sunlight dimmed around us as we entered the jungle and left the desert behind, becoming shrouded in a veil of leaves and tree branches.
I kept glancing left and right, surveying the area for any signs of Enderlord whatsoever. I didn't hear or see anything at all, at least not yet. He had to be here, though, right? Right?! I took a deep breath, not allowing myself to panic just yet, and calmly continued my search, scanning every square inch of this forest as we moved forward.
The sound of something whizzing through the air behind me caught my attention. I ducked just in time to see an arrow fly over my head.
"Skeletons!" Petra gasped. "But how did they-?"
"Of course!" I realized. "The sunlight isn't bright enough down here for anything to burn!"
A low hissing sound came from the trees to my right, and several creepers crawled into view.
"Ugh, there's creepers, too?!" Petra exclaimed.
"And zombies!" Axel added as they, too, emerged from behind the thick tree trunks, closing in on us rapidly.
"Baby ones, too!" Olivia gasped, and I noticed them moving quickly towards us.
"Stick together, guys," I told them. "I'm sure we can handle this."
They all nodded, staying close together as the mobs closed in around us on all sides.
I pulled out my shield and blocked some arrows as they flew at me.
"YAH!" I gave a battle cry, lifting up my shield quickly and briefly while the skeletons reloaded their bows, firing off a flurry of icicles at them, knocking most of them over.
I heard a hissing sound getting louder to my right, and turned to see a creeper approaching, flashing white and getting ready to explode. I bounced it up into the air with my sheild before it could strike me, sending it flying over Lukas's head.
"Lukas! Incoming!" I warned him.
"Gotcha!" He nodded, firing an arrow at the creeper and taking it out before it exploded.
I glanced around quickly to see how everyone else was doing. Axel was holding off some zombies that were coming at him from the front, but there was one coming at him from his right that he didn't seem to notice.
"Axel! Behind you!" I called to him, dashing over to him and sliding across his back, slashing at the zombie, quickly taking it down.
"Thanks," He thanked me.
Petra was engaging about five zombies at once, hacking away at them with Miss Butter.
"Oh no, you don't!" I cried out as I noticed a baby zombie running up behind her.
"Nice," Petra smiled, spinning in a circle and slashing everything within a two to three block radius of her, finishing off the baby zombie as well.
Soren was trying his best, but with a measly stone sword, he wasn't doing much damage, and it took several hits to take out each zombie. They were coming up on him faster than he could take them out. I rushed over to help him, pushing the zombies back with a gust of icy wind, damaging them slightly, but they were coming right back. Thinking quickly, Jesse leapt up, turning sideways and twirling through the air like his sword was the tip of a drill, taking out the whole line of the zombies in one fell swoop.
"Woa-ho-ho! Jesse, that was awesome!" I cheered.
Jesse grinned at me, idly taking out another creeper that approached him.
Olivia seemed to be doing okay, but there was a baby zombie coming up behind her as well. With pinpoint accuracy, I fired off another arrow, defeating the baby zombie before it could reach her. Ivor had his back to the center of the battlefield, and one zombie had somehow managed to slip past our defenses, approaching him rapidly from behind.
"I gotcha!" I assured him, taking the zombie down just seconds before it would have reached him.
Another zombie had somehow snuck past everyone, and was wandering towards me. I charged forward to engage it, but suddenly, an arrow whizzed down from above, landing in the ground just in front of me, forcing me to stop dead in my tracks.
"What on earth?" I gasped.
"There's skeletons in the trees!" Petra gasped.
"How did they manage that?" Olivia wondered.
"Beats me," Soren shrugged.
"I'll go handle them," I decided. "Anyone wanna come with me?"
"I'll go with you," Jesse offered.
"Thanks," I thanked him. "Now, stay close!"
I formed two pillars of ice right next to each other, ascending up into the trees, where the skeletons stood. They turned to us immediately as we stopped beside them, another round of arrows ready to be fired upon us.
"Take my hand," Jesse told me. "I've got a plan."
"Okay," I reached out and grabbed his hand, quickly, not wanting to take any chances with these skeletons.
Everything seemed to go in slow motion as they released the string of their bows and the arrows came flying at us from every possible direction. Jesse whipped me around as I held out my sheild with my other hand, and all the arrows were stopped before they hit us.
"Great thinking, Jesse," I grinned. "Now let's finish them off."
Jesse nodded, letting go of me and turning to engage one half of the skeleton army, leaving me to handle the rest of them. I blew them off the treetops with a powerful gust of icy wind. I followed after them as they were bowled off the ledge, running vertically down a jungle tree trunk at top speeds. I landed safely on the ground, the skeletons still falling from above. I positioned myself underneath them and slashed up at them, finishing them off. I popped back up to see how Jesse was doing. Not a single skeleton was in sight.
"Nice work," I grinned, taking us both back down safely to the rest of the group.
"And that's the last of 'em!" Petra exclaimed, smiling.
"Cool!" I smiled as well. "Great work, everyone. Now, with a hoard of mobs that big, Enderlord's bound to be close by. Let's fan out and keep looking, guys!"
Everyone nodded, heading to a different edge of the clearing and peering through the trees to see if they could find anything. I squinted through the trees dead ahead, but couldn't see much of anything that would hint that Enderlord headed off in that direction.
