Things I Love
I love to walk the meadows fair
In soft, grey mist of morn
When dewdrops sparkle everywhere
In the light of early dawn.
I love to sit by quiet pools
Where reeds and rushes grow
Where dragonflies like painted jewels,
Dart swiftly to and fro.
I love to walk the leafy paths
Beside a rippling stream
Where sunlight, with bright, golden shafts,
Makes flowing waters gleam.
I love to lie 'neath shady trees
And pass the lazy hours
Listening to the humming bees
As they buzz among the flowers .
I love to stand where heathers grow
Upon the highland moor
Where kestrels hover, then swoop low
And golden eagles soar.
I love to watch the evening sky
When the day is almost done
And see the ruddy clouds drift by
In the glow of the setting sun.
I love to see the stars at night
That have so long endured
And hope their ever lasting light
Will never be obscured.
The lovely things I see each day
Are part of nature's plan
Don't let them be spoilt, I pray,
By the careless hand of man.
