Dingley Dell
I remember the days of my childhood
Ah! yes I remember them well
Where I played alone in the wildwood
Down in Dingley Dell.
How there I stood in a fairy ring
Where a witch had cast her spell
For there seemed to be magic in everything
Down in Dingley Dell.
I knew that grown-ups would look askance
If ever I should tell
How I watched the elves and fairies dance
Down in Dingley Dell.
I used to think "that when I am grown
This is where I am going to dwell
This is where I'll make my home"
Down in Dingley Dell.
As I grew old my childish dreams
Of that place I loved so well
Were lost in pursuit of other schemes
And I forgot about Dingley Dell.
Then I grew old and I searched in vain
For that place I wanted to dwell
And thro' I looked again and again
I could not find Dingley Dell.
But now I know that I was beguiled
For 'twas I who weaved the spell
'Twas only there in the heart of a child
My lovely Dingley Dell.
