Moon Talk
The moon shone bright in the star-filled night
And I looked at the moon with glee,
"Oh, moon of old, astronaut bold
Will soon be landing on thee."
But the moon's pale face with its usual grace
Just stared back haughtily,
As if to say in its cold proud way
"What! And astronaut land on me?"
"Oh yes," said I to the moon in the sky
As it spun on its orbital way
"Oh yes, quite soon we'll reach you, moon,
And land on you one day."
The moon looked down and seemed to frown
As it lazily sailed through the night,
As if to say, "You may come one day
When you've put your own world right."
And so they came, looking for fame,
Seeking a way to the stars,
Bursting with pride on that historic ride
And shouting, "Next stop Mars."
But the moon shone on, its privacy gone,
With the same cold look on its face
That said, "Things on Earth are getting worse,
I don't think you're ready for space."
