A Breath of Spring
I felt the breath of spring today
I heard her tiptoe by,
Passing where Winter's snow still lay
I heard her whispering sigh.
I noticed the woods where she had been
Conspiring with the breeze
To stealthily cast her mantle of green
Over the bare, dark trees.
I heard her rehearsing quivering notes
For the wooing birds to thrill
So the sound that pour from the warbling throats
Make music sweet and shrill.
Oh come, like me you must have seen,
Tho' Winters snow still lies,
Touches where lovely Spring has been
Taking Winter by surprise.
