My Grandson's Little Hamster
My grandson brought a hamster, quite pretty and quite tame,
He said "I'll call him Harold cause I quite like that name."
So my grandson and his father built a sturdy cage of wood,
And brought a bright red plastic dome, which on the top they stood, They made a ramp, so Harold could climb up into the dome,
And Harold seemed quite happy in his two-story home.
One day when they let him out so he could exercise
He darted from the cage so quick he took them by surprise,
He dodged behind the furniture and sped across the floor
And everyone shouted "Quick shut the door!"
He climbed the radiator but found it rather hot,
So he scampered up the curtains to find a cooler spot.
He scrambled on mum's desk and in the typewriter got stuck,
And mum yelled "Get him out of there before he writes a book."
But when someone attempted to set poor Harold free,
They discovered that Harold was a she.
So Harold became Norah which suited her in fact.
She gnawed at almost everything so Norah was quite apt;
All the family moan and say "She's just a pest" and yet
My grandsons little hamster is now everybody's pet.
