Summer Dawn
Daybreak and the rosy light
Of rising sun, pink-tinged, climbs high,
Dispersing the dark shades of night
That linger in the western sky.
Awakening birds give out shrill notes
Trembling in the misty air
Cadenzas for their warbling throats
Repeated like the morning prayer.
Bejewelled cobwebs on the hedgerows
With diamond dew-drops on each thread
Sparkling as the soft breeze blows
Where early morning light is spread.
The sweet new smell of early morn
Evoked by the rising sun's first rays
Lend freshness to each summer dawn
That promises bright sunny days.
