The Russian and the American (Bucky 1940's)

Chapter 12

  Elizabeth finds James body and rushes into the room. He's strapped down head to toe. She can hear him repeating words, but not really paying attention. A pair of foot steps echo through the hall. Elizabeth perks up and points her gun at the blond haired man that has entered the room.

  He is dressed in red, white, and blue. He has a gun and points it at her, although it is very clear that he doesn't know how to use it. Not dropping her stare, she asks him who he is. That's when his eyes go to Bucky. Elizabeth watches as the man rushes over and undoes his straps going across his chest.

  "Bucky?" The man asks.

  "St-Steve?" Bucky stutters back.

  She is confused. She was told that Steve was small and fragile, and from when she saw him that one time, he was. Steve helps Bucky sit up and he gets him off of the medical table.

  "I thought you where smaller?" Bucky says looking up and down.

  "We need to go," Elizabeth says breaking up the conversation.

  Their attention goes back to the girl standing in front of them. Bucky rushes over to her and hugs her.

  "I thought you where dead," he sighs into her hair.

  Pulling back, Elizabeth mentions towards the door.

  "We need to go before back up comes," she orders.

  The three rush out of the room and down the hall, once they come to an intersections, Elizabeth takes the lead.

  "This way," she waves on.

  The boys follow her down a series of halls. She can hear the two talking, but she's more fixated on getting out of this damn building in one piece. They end up getting out to where the rest of the men where working, but now it's blowing up and on fire.

  They climb a nearby staircase, and as their running they stop by Red Skull.

  "Captain America!" He shouts over the flames. "I am a big fan of your work," he says referring to the movies, but of course neither Bucky nor Elizabeth get this reference.

  Behind Johan was Zola. Bucky locks eyes with him, although he would never admit it, he is terrified of that man.

  "You see I was Eirkenstines greatest invention!" Schmitt says, pulling off his mask.

  As he peels it off he reveals the reason behind the name Red Skull.

  "You don't have one of those do you?" Bucky asks.

  Elizabeth watches as Steve and Red Skull are about to fight. Right as he's about to punch Steve square in the face, Elizabeth throws Steve back. And quickly she grabs Johans arm and throws him on his back.

  Zola pulls a leaver that makes the two bridges break apart from one another. So, Elizabeth quickly hops onto the other bridge, away from her captor. Red Skull stands up and looks her dead in the eyes.

  "You are mine! You belong to me girl! You will never be free from Hydra! Once we get you back we will break you and we will break you for good," Johan spits.

  Elizabeth backs up, timid by this threat. She watches as Red Skull and Zola flee the scene, until Steve is the one to snap the two out of their trance. They run up  another set of stairs, and that's when Elizabeth finds a small metal platform that they could get across on. With explosions coming from below, they finally reach their way out.

  Elizabeth is the first to go, with her being the lightest out of the three. Next is Bucky. Elizabeth watches as he shimmy's across. About a foot away, the platform collapses and Elizabeth catches him and pulls him up and over the metal bars. Looking at his options, Steve doesn't see any.

  "There has to be a rope or something!" Bucky yells through the explosion.

  "Just go! Get out of here!" Steve yells back.

  "NO! NOT WITHOUT YOU!" Bucky screams back.

  Steve breaks the metal railing, gets a running start, and jumps across the opening into an explosion. Elizabeth and Bucky catch his arms and pull him up. Once more, Elizabeth leads the way out of the building. Once their out and running, everyone is behind the gate. Then, the explosion from the building sends the three flying.

  With ears ringing and a pounding head, Elizabeth slowly gets up. She's in the forest, surrounded by trees. Then a hand reaches out to her, it's none other then Bucky.

  "Ready to go home doll?" He asks with that charming smile of his.

  She jumps up from the ground and wraps him up in a hug. Bucky hugs her back and sighs into her neck. Both of them finally get the feeling that they can breath. The two head back to the camp on foot.

  Yes, it's a long walk but both Elizabeth and Steve knew the way back. Dum Dum and a guy named Gabe Jones had stolen a tank from them, along with multiple guns.

  As Elizabeth walk through the forest, she always kept her guard up and never let go of the riffle that they had given her. They've been walking for about three days now. Only stopping every now and then. As Elizabeth's as leading the way, and Bucky is talking to some of the guys on the truck back home. Steve comes up and joins the woman's side.

  "Thank you," Steve says shyly.

  He was intimidated by the woman next to him. She was strong and he could see that. And seeing her fight didn't help his view on her as a fighter, but seeing the way she helped both him and Bucky he knew that he could trust her. Bucky would write about her in his letters to him.
Not responding, seeing as he doesn't know that she's Russian, she would like to keep it that way. For now at least.

  "Bucky's my best friend. He's helped me out quite a bit. So, uhh, where did you learn how to fight?" Steve asks.

  Still not responding though, Elizabeth hears a twig snap in the distance. Quickly turning her attention in the direction of the snapping sound, she brings her gun to her shoulder and looks through the scope. That's when she spots a man. He had been following them, following her. So without hesitation, she runs at the man, leaving Steve confused. She sprints through the forest. Tree branches flinging into her face and cutting her, but that didn't matter seeing that they heal right away.

  Eventually, she catches up with the man she is perusing. With a jump, she tackles the man to the ground. She wraps her arms around his arms to hold him down. He tries to get out of the assassins grasp but it's no use.

  "Heilf! Let me go!" He yells.

  She throws him at a nearby tree, making him go right through it. She then picks him up and chokes him up against another tree.

  "What the fuck do you want?" She spits in German.

  She watches as he bites off one of his one of he's teeth and chews it. Instantly his mouth starts to foam.

  "We.. will get.. you back. Hail, Hydra" he chokes out before the life drains from his eyes.

  She lets out a grunt and drops his body. Steve rushes to her side, his eyes quickly go to the dead body.

  "What happened?" He asks in shock.

  Not answering though, Elizabeth makes her way back to the rest of the team.

  "Wait up!" Steve calls from behind.
