It was their first mission. Steve, Bucky, Elizabeth, Dugan, Jacque, Gabe, and three other guys. Jim, who seemed to be somewhere form Asia, a guy names James Montgomery, and a man that they called Pinky. Together they where unstoppable. Raid after raid, after raid. Everyone was now aware of Hydra and what they have done.
They are the main target for the Howling Commando's. Elizabeth and Bucky haven't talked in over a month. Every time Bucky tried to, she would pull away. She thought that she was protecting him, but she was really just hurting him.
The team had just gotten done a mission in Germany, and are sitting at a pub having a drink. They sat at a booth in the corner of the pub. Elizabeth was on the end, keeping to herself. Everyone was laughing and talking, they are getting closer to taking them down. Hydra, the Nazis, everything. The group was unstoppable, they could do anything.
They all had their own part to play. Steve was the Captain and the leader. Bucky was the sniper who saved everyone's asses on multiple occasions. Dugan and the rest of the boys where backup and just all around good soldiers.
Elizabeth however, she was the brains, she knew Hydra, she knew their moves. She was the killer on the team, she would be the one to cover everyone's backs. She would go ahead and kill as many as she could, then she would go ahead and just like before, she would push them to her team were they would finish it off.
The team sits there drinking and enjoying each other's presence. Elizabeth just keepsto herself. Everyone had agreed not to tell anyone who she truly was, and she was great full for that. To be honest though, she was tired. She hadn't slept in five days, everyone could see the bags under her eyes. They are heavy and dark.
Bucky could never take her eyes off of her, no matter what. He knew that she was trying to protect him, but he didn't need protection, not yet at least. Elizabeth stood up from the table and walked away. Curious, Bucky followed her out of the pub and outside. Bucky followed her as she rounded the bar and down an alley.
He watches her stop in the middle of the alleyway. Sighing, Bucky says something. He didn't like this silence, he wanted to be with her.
"Liz," he starts. "Why won't you talk to me? You won't even look at me. What did I do?" Bucky's voice crack.
Elizabeth sighs with her back towards him, hangs her head, and shakes it.
"You need to stay away from me Barnes," she sighs.
"Why?"
"I could get you hurt again. Hydra will never stop looking for me, and your my weakness. If I cut you off they won't hurt you."
Now facing the man she loves, a single tear rolls down her left cheek.
"I shouldn't love you. But I do and Hydra knows that," she chokes out.
Quickly Bucky is at her side and wraps her up in a hug.
"I won't let Hydra hurt you. Not again. I've never felt this way with anyone before, and I'm not about to go and lose that."
It was true, all the other woman he had been with, they never lasted long. He wanted more, they only liked him for his looks, not for his personality.
Elizabeth however, she was different. She loved Bucky for who he was. She was able to see past his charm and see who he really was. He has a heart that she has never seen. He was always putting others before him, he was strong willed and had a heart of gold. Not only that, but she loved how he made her fell less of a monster.
"I can't watch you get hurt," Elizabeth confesses.
"I won't get hurt," Bucky smiles back.
So, giving it another shot, Elizabeth gives in. She truly loved this man.
"Ok," she smiles softly.
Her smile always made Bucky's heart melt. He had loved her the day that their eyes had met on one another.
After months worth of fighting, they had taken down seven more Hydra bases. Each layout was about the same. Due to that, it had given them an advantage when they went in. Steve, however, still had to do his movies every now and then. All the Howling Commanders where forced to do it as well. Elizabeth however, had opted out. No one was going to fight with a woman like that.
Most people however had become familiar with her name. The Widow. No one knew her real name but it was her stage name. When the papers had come, her name was on the front cover multiple times.
"The Howling Commanders save the day again. With Captain America, Sergeant Barnes, and The Widow, they take down another Hydra base. America is now ahead of the league with this team on our side," Dum Dum read out loud. "When will we get some recognition?" He asks.
It was true. Those three got the most attention. But ever since she had made a name for herself. More woman had joined the army.
Shrugging, Elizabeth spoke, "maybe you should get a new hair cut," she laughed.
She sees Dum Dum as a brother figure. Everyone laughs, except Dugan. He just sits there with a look of disappointment.
"You're an ass Liz. You know that?" Dum Dum asks.
Laughing some more she nods. "Then it's working," she smiles.
She has never experienced this much joy and happiness before. They are currently in the middle of winter and in Russia. This place has brought back a lot of memories for Elizabeth. She could remember little bits of her parents. She could remember the lake. She could remember everything.
Yet, she still felt at home in this country. No matter how much she hated to admit it, she loved it. She loved how it snowed all year round. She loved how cold hearted the people were. She loved the mountains and the way the stars shined at night. She got comfort from this place. Nonetheless though, she had to push it aside for now. Because right now? They have a train to catch.
