Quality time with dear old dad these days tended to involve fighting giants. Quite frequently. Fantastic family bonding time.
__________
Before we had left for the quest, I sent an Iris message to my mom and Paul. I'd told them about the end of the world (the usual) but toned down of course and how I needed to go on the quest.
My mom had just stared at me, glassy eyed and unmoving. When I had finished, she had just nodded.
"I'll have some blue cookies for you and your friends when you all get back, okay?"
When, not if.
Paul had just sat there, an arm around her and comforting her. I was so grateful that she had found him. I wouldn't let them down. I would go back and eat those dam cookies with my parents, and with all of my friends.

Jason used his powers to drift us down from the ship (which was hovering about seventy feet above) to where the giants were waiting. We must have looked so cool, like we were out of an Avengers movie or something.
I was pretty relieved when we got to the ground. I had noticed that Thalia had avoided the edges of the ship at all costs when we were in the air. Wonder why.
I stood next to my father, whose presence was ancient and powerful. He held his trident proudly, his eyes stormy and brimming with power.
Polybotes glared at me and my father with relentless hate. I uncapped riptide.
"Zeus," Porphyrion growled.
"Porphyrion," Zeus replied calmly.
"How? How did you know we were here?"
"It is unwise to underestimate your enemies," Athena replied.
"Same goes to you," Enceladus replied and I got the sense that they knew something we didn't. Athena felt the same and I saw her narrow her cold, steely eyes.
Thanatos stood behind the giants in his chains. We made eye contact and he looked at me, calculating. I raised an eyebrow and turned my attention to Polybotes. All we had to do was kill/draw the giants away from Death, and then problem solved.
Piece of blue cake.
"Shall we begin?" Porphyrion said, raising his arms and grinning ear to ear.
Zeus summoned his Master Bolt (good to see he's actually using it after all that trouble we went to) and made a war cry.
The battle began.
I turned my attention to Polybotes. My father and I charged towards him. We needed to push him back as far as possible.
The giant held a large trident, like he was trying to copy my father's trident. Copycat. Find something original, ugly lizard thing.
He swung his trident towards us and I rolled beneath it while my dad dodged to the side. I ran forwards to stab him in the foot, but he kicked me back painfully. I flew in the air, but I felt water in a crack between the ice.
I willed it to come up and I slammed into the wall of water, stopping my momentum so I didn't turn into a pancake. I sped forwards back to the giant in my floating water bubble. My father was battling him with his trident, but Polybotes got lucky and disarmed him, his trident flying through the air. My dad rolled to the side to collect it and Polybotes went to stab down with his trident. But then I was there, deflecting the strike with riptide.
My father stood up and charged the giant again, who swung at me angrily. I blocked the strike with my sword. His strength was overwhelming, so instead of pushing against his trident, I shifted my sword and pushed it down while leaping. His trident became stuck in the ice, narrowly missing me.
