"Hazel!?" Frank shouted at the empty space in front of us. "Why- why would she do that?" he murmured worriedly, facing to look at us. Piper pursed her lips and put a hand on his shoulder. "I don't know. But she didn't look captured, which is a good thing. She'll be okay."
Frank nodded hesitantly. I reached up and put an awkward arm on his other shoulder. It didn't really work though, because I'm 5"3 and he's 6"3, but, y'know, I think he appreciated the gesture. He raised an eyebrow, but the faintest ghost of a smile tugged the corner of his lips.
"Maybe- we should call Nico?" Piper suggested, but her boyfriend shut the idea down.
"No." he said quickly. I had to agree with him.
"Nico would, like, totally flip out," Jason winced, voicing my exact thoughts. I did not think mr scary emo kid come banging on our door would solve the problem.
"Well, imma-" I started, but Jason pulled me back. I fell face first into a pink fluffy pillow, and I gagged and started spitting out fluff, pulling a disgusted face at the pink on my tongue. "Dude, what-" I said, turning around, but I saw Jason had his sword drawn. In the doorway, there stood three unrecognisable figures. They looked like weird shiny blobs, their weird jelly bodies glistening in the light. They had long, ghost like gaunt faces that smiled into nothing.
"What the actual-" I started to say, frowning. I didn't think we were gonna have to deal with live slime today.
"Don't let them touch you!" Jason shouted, interrupting me. He backed up slowly, protective arms in front of Piper and Frank.
"What are those?" Piper said, backing away. She looked fearful, yet her nose was wrinkled in disgust. I wondered if they smelt bad. All I could smell were Hazel's scented pillows. Lavender. Nice choice.
"They're Nosoi," Jason informed us quickly. "I think...apparently the third cohort fought them in the first war. Not seen them personally, though. Just heard descriptions." He looked like he was really rack in his brain, lots of his memories seldom came back.
The creatures stepped forwards eerily. "We are the spirits of disease... What is your first choice of illness?"
"Chickenpox?" I said.
"Leo?!" Frank said.
"What!? We get a choice!"The Nosoi at the front laughed. "Fool! Our abilities can bring back the plague! The black death!"
"Who says 'fool?'" I said. "Like, I think you're in the wrong century, dude."They were only a few feet from Jason now. "Get back!" Piper cried. The monsters faltered, stepping back for a second, then shaking their heads, ridding themselves of her charm speak. They seemed to be stronger, the daughter of Aphrodite's voice not affecting them as much as it should've.
Jason swung his sword. Impossibly, it swiped straight through the monster's body, the Nosoi not disintegrating at all.
They grinned again. "Your celestial bronze does nothing to us." Jason grimaced, remembering this fact only after his action. He cursed his memory. Piper began to look round frantically for a weapon, having left katropis in the other room.
Frank's face suddenly hardened. "Hazel." he said. "Where is Hazel?" he stepped forwards. "Do you know where she is?"
The one on the left dodged the question. "I have not fought a demigod in 321 years, yet I still do not remember that there is this much talking."
"Well us gen z are quite a talkative lot." I said.
"Especially him," Piper injected, sticking out her thumb towards me.
"But answer Franks question: where's Hazel?" I said.
"The daughter of Hades?" one asked.
"Pluto," Frank corrected.
It cackled. "She doesn't have long left, that one."
Suddenly, Frank transformed into a small bear, pouncing forwards, claws extended.
