A/N: This is such a long chapter 💀
I would normally split this into multiple chaps but I needed it in one for future timelines and big events. This is basically the Hazel big moment but I didn't realise it would be 3𝟔𝟕1 words long 😭
Hazel
"Hey!" I said, walking up to a group of teens, maybe a little older than me, but I guessed they were around my age. They were a group of four, seeming to be texting someone on the blonde girl's phone. "Do you- do you know where the Canmore caves are?"
The blonde one turned, screwing up her eyebrows in confusion. "Uh, no. I don't even know what that is. Why do you have a horse?"
I was puzzled for a second, before realising she was talking about the pegasus beside me.
"Oh! It's mine! Can I see your phone quickly? I really need to get there."
"Uh-" the girl looked unsure. "Fine. Be quick-" she said, handing me her phone. I searched the location in the search bar, before hearing a gasp.
"Oh my God! Why does your horse have wings!?" a girl in the group screamed. I immediately looked up. The dark haired girl had a shaky finger pointed at my pegasus. She seemed in awe, yet scared, as she held up her phone to take a picture. She had clear sight, out of all the people in this world.
A ginger girl to her right laughed. "Ava, what are you talking about? It's a horse, a pretty one, sure, but-"
"No. I'm being serious!! Look!" she held up the phone to show them, but the lit screen showed a normal horse. Ava frowned, looking back and forth between the pegasus and the photo.
I'd found the caves on the map, and spent a minute or so working out how to read it. Ava was freaking out now. I raised my hand and snapped my fingers, most curling around us like a blanket. I looked up sharply.
"None of you see a winged horse. This is a normal horse. At the end of this conversation, you will forget about me." They all nodded their heads numbly.
But I had spent too long with the phone. I turned to my right, and three Northern Cyclopes were approaching. I handed the blonde girl her phone back, saying a quick thanks before running to my pegasus.
"Daughter of Pluto!" one of them bellowed. Ava screamed and backed up in fear, eyes widening at the sight of the monsters.
"Ava, what's wrong now?" the forth brunette girl said, rolling her eyes. I had to leave. I had to.
But I couldn't leave them here.
I charged forwards on the pegasus, sword swinging at the first one before it could blink, its head sliced off and into golden dust. The next one pulled my arm, and I flew off the mythical creature, hitting the ground hard. Wind was knocked out of me, as if Coach Hedge had hit me with his delusional baseball bat.
It went to step on me, but I rolled, picking up my dropped cavalry sword as I got to my feet. The other one threw a punch, but I dodged and cut off its hand. Frustratingly, it did not disintegrate. This time, when the other cyclops hit me, it landed. I flew back, hitting the ground again, hard.
I gasped for air, sitting up. I spat out a mouthful of dirt. Before my vision could even come into focus, a cyclops picked me up by my jacket.
"A big three child using a mobile phone?" it laughed. "Is it just me or are demigods getting dumber?" it said to the other, which also laughed, grinning evilly. I was dimly aware of the girls screaming behind me.
My sword was on the ground. If I could just...
"Ava!" I called, tilting my head to the blade. and the scared mortal looked up to meet my eyes. She bit her lip and stiffly ran forwards. She bent down, picked it up, and threw it towards me, hilt at closest side to the floor. Like perfect machinery, I caught it and sliced off the cyclops' head.
