It was supposed to take 12 hours to get from Lawrence to Casper. Once again, Carlisle and I sleep together in the back seat and the boys take turns driving. Somewhere in Nebraska we stop for gas. I get out to stretch my legs and grab a water from the gas station, but before I'm even inside I'm knocked to the ground. A startled cry is all it takes for Carlisle to be out of the car and by my side in seconds. He wrenches the animal off me and drop kicks it across the parking lot.
"Are you ok?" He asks, helping me up:
"Yeah." I grab his hand and he pulls me into his chest.
"What was that?" Dean tells from the car. "It's coming back watch out!"
I grab the knife Sam tosses me and turn to face my attacker. It looks like a large dog, but its eyes are glowing green and its teeth are dripping saliva. It bares its fangs and jumps at us again. Carlisle meets it half way and slams it to the ground by its neck. It twists, trying to escape, but I'm there with the blade and quickly decapitate the beast.
I looks to where Dean has finished pumping gas. "Do you think there are more? Dogs, or dog adjacent, don't usually travel alone."
He glances and Sam before answering. "I think we'll have to make a quick stop, but Sammy has his heart set on Wyoming."
Sam rolls his eyes but nods. "Whatever that thing is we can't let a pack keep terrorizing this town."
As it turns out, the Ogallala police office was over run with people complaining about the daemon dogs.
"The thing ate my birds!" A lady shrieks at an officer as we walk in. "I've had those birds for longer than you've been alive!"
"I get the feeling we may not have been the only ones with a doggy problem." Dean mumbles to Sam.
They show their badges to the receptionist who gratefully shows them to the office of the sheriff. "She'll be glad for the help." The man says kicking in the door. "Today has been a long one already."

After the police station we head to the local diner for lunch. Sam pulls out his computer to do some research the dogs and Dean starts in on his burger. I pick at my fries as Carlisle sips a coke. The Sheriff didn't have much to tell us other than the attacks started out a week ago. So far they hadn't gone after any people, but livestock and pets had been going missing every night. I had been the first human attack and she hadn't looked thrilled at the prospect of the animals going after people.
"Any idea of what they could be?" I ask Sam.
"I'm not getting much." He said before turning his attention to Carlisle. "Do you have any idea what might happen if you turned, say, a wolf rather than a human?"
Carlisle shook his head. "We drain animals. I've never seen one turned. Is that what you think they are?"
Sam shrugged. "It's the only thing I can think of. The myths are coming up dry for the green eyes. Hell hounds have red not green but there was a foot note about something similar being vampires."
"So then there must be a coven near by." I say, grabbing Carlisle's hand. "You up for a hunt?" I ask him, and he grins.

Three hours later, we're tracking dogs through the forest and hoping they will lead us to the vampires. I have my sword strapped to my back and a lighter gripped in my hand. Carlisle is moving silently through the trees to my right and Dean on my left. Sam is taking up the rear, protecting our backs.
The trail ends in a clearing, and Dean motions for us to circle it before we venture through the thick bushes. I'm not tall enough to see over the bushes but from the faces of Sam and Dean I can tell we're in the right place. I take a deep breath and grabbed my sword as quietly as I could, lighting it before pushing my way into the clearing.
I break through the wall of thrones and all hell breaks loose. There are about 7 more vampire dogs and 4 vampires. As Carlisle, Sam, and Dean appear, weapons out, the dogs attack and the vampires try to escape. I slice the head off one dog and head for the creators of the beasts. Before I get more than four steps another dog comes for me. This one is smaller and more agile, and harder to kill. I get a few no lethal blows in, singeing fur but not doing much else. Before I can finish him off, it bites my arm, teeth sinking in deep. I scream and drop my sword. The last thing I see is Carlisle ripping his opponent in half and start racing toward me.

Sam
Charlie goes down and Carlisle rips anything that goes after him to shreds. Dean and I take out the Vampires, leaving the dogs the Carlisle. For some reason the dogs seem drawn to Charlie, whether or not he's conscious.
We drop Carlisle and Charlie at the hospital to get him checked out. He's conscious again, but Carlisle was adamant he needed to get the wounds cleaned somewhere sterile. Dean and I check into a motel near by. We'll head to Casper first thing in the morning, but for now it's time to crash.

Hello Sammy. The voice slithers into my mind and I jolt, but don't wake. You're not going to find me in Casper you know. I'm close to moving on, business done.
I don't say anything but I search the darkness for the voice. He's circling me, or dream me, and I don't like it. I reach for a gun or a knife and come up empty.
Tsk tsk. Looking for a weapon Sammy? You should know better. How have the visions been?
I growl and spin on my heel, still searching the darkness for him and coming up empty.
Come on Sammy. We could be the dream team! I could help you more than you know. The power you could wield, more than you've ever dreamed of!
I don't want anything from you. I growl into the darkness and finally I see his eyes, glowing a ghastly shade of yellow green.
When you wake up things will be different. I'm not supposed to warn you, but I am because I like you. You're going have to make choices that you won't like. Get over it.
As he walks closer more and more of him comes into focus and light.
If you are going to win you'll have to be the strongest. Are you the strongest Sammy?

I wake with a start and sit up, hitting my head on a beam. I  shake my head in confusion and look around me. I'm in a house, but it's not the one I went to sleep in.
