Vampire celebrations are certainly something. Carlisle explained that they can't get drunk on normal alcohol because they can't metabolize it, but if they drink blood laced with mistletoe extract it's like taking tequila shots. Of course I went for my typical beer in celebration as they vamps drank their literal bloody Mary's, and then headed home pretty early. My head hurt, my stomach hurt, hell everything hurt. Except the scabbed over bites on my neck. This whole day was so messed up I just needed time to watch stupid tv and think.
I sank into my armchair with a groan and closed my eyes. "I'm too old for this shit." I said to no one in particular. It would be really strange if anyone answered considering I was home alone. That was not a good thought. My eyes flew open and I did a quick scan of the room. As expected there was no one there. I shook my head to clear it and then jumped about a mile high as my phone rang.
I tried to settle my racing pulse as I grabbed for the phone and answered. "Hello?" I said, a little more gruffly than I mean to.
"Hi dad, how are you."
"Bella, hey. Im good. What's up?" Bella never called me out of the blue like this. She hadn't even made the initial arrangements to come here. That had mostly been coordinated between her mother and me.
"Well, I know I bailed on moving to Forks permanently, but Christmas break is coming up and mom and I were thinking maybe I could stay with you over the break. It's only two weeks so I'll be out of your hair pretty quickly and I promise-"
I cut off her rambling with "Of course you can come. Your room is still ready from when you were going to come so I won't even have to make the bed pr anything. Just let me know when your flight is so I can pick you up."
"Thank you dad! I can't wait to see you at Christmas. I'll text you the flight details when I get them."
"Sounds good kiddo. How is school?"

Three weeks later the truck is idling in front of the airport doors waiting for Bella. There hadn't been any more paranormal activity and I'd been avoiding the Cullens as much as possible. The moment when Carlisle had been sucking my blood had been... indescribable. It was emotionally charged and thrilling and strange. Unlike anything I'd ever experienced before. For the first time I really understood why someone would let a vampire suck them dry without too much of a fight, while he'd been latched on I couldn't think straight about what I was feeling let alone try to fight. And that scared the hell out of me. I wanted nothing to do with the vampires for as long as I could avoid it. Putting myself in a position where I might experience that again was not something I was keen on, and having Bella around was the perfect excuse not to have anything to do with them. At least over Christmas.
A knock on the passenger window brings me back to reality. Bella smiles on the other side and waved. Unlock the door she mouths at me. I hit the unlock button and jump out of the car to grab her bags.
"Hey Bells!" I say grabbing her in a big hug. "How was your flight?"
"It was long." She says with a big yawn.
"Well, you have a big fluffy bed wait at home. Is this your only bag?" I say grabbing the bright pink rollar suit cause next to her.
"Yup." She says getting into the truck. "Just that and my back pack."
"I'm glad to have you home Bells. This is going to be the best Christmas the Sean's have seen yet!"
